CompTIA To Release New A+ Exams Nov. 26

9/10/2003 -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced today that it will be releasing the 2003 versions of its A+ exams on Nov. 26.

When live, these exams will instantly replace the versions to be released Friday, which are based on the 2001 objectives but contain unscored beta items covering 2003 objective topics. CompTIA has previously described the new objectives as a "minor update" to the 2001 set.

The exams will continue to be in linear format. CompTIA announced last month that it has dropped adaptive format permanently so that it can continually test beta items both for upgrades and to refresh the question pool.

CompTIA's A+ certification is made up of two exams: Core Hardware and OS. It is a vendor-neutral title designed for computer repair technicians. Once earned, the credential is good for life -- there is no need to upgrade.

Candidates who pass one 2001 exam will be allowed to mix-and-match with the 2003 exams to earn the title, the organization said.

9/10/03: Anonymous says: Will there be a difference on the actual certification paper that it is the 2003 version, or does it not mention date. I'm asking this as will be taking the exams, just wondering if I should hold out til november...
9/10/03: Anonymous says: ...maybe some hyperthreading stuff, Serial ATA, etc...
9/11/03: Anonymous says: CompTIA certs are for life...it doesn't matter which you take you will be Aplus certfied. That and 2 bucks will get you a cup of coffee.
9/11/03: Anonymous from Richmond, VA says: About the 'holding out till November' - I found out the hard way last time they changed that if you pass one and they change, you have to re-take (and pay again for) the one that you passed as well as the other, with no credit for the first. So unless you know you will pass them both before Nov, it might be wise to wait.
9/11/03: Anonymous from Charlottesville, VA says: It's interesting that COMPTIA is now going to an all Linear format and abandoning the Adaptive format. The Adaptive is just as challenging if not more so (you only get 30 questions and you had best hope you know the answers) and I hate to see it go.
9/11/03: Anonymous says: thanks alot everyone
9/11/03: Anonymous says: Please read the article Richmond, Va......And I quote "Candidates who pass one 2001 exam will be allowed to mix-and-match with the 2003 exams to earn the title, the organization said."....the article is 10 lines long please read before giving someone bad info.
9/12/03: Anonymous says: Yeah...YEAH....another update for this useless test
9/13/03: ChocoTaco from El Polo Loco says: This is totally sweet cause I need some more worthless CompTIA certs. These are high school level certs, good if you want to get a job at Best Buy, but not much else.
9/15/03: Anonymous says: Now the American Gov't is considering outsourcing for crying out loud (see below). If you want to see who the enemy is, look at this company: TCS America, owned by India-based TCS...... http://www.computerworld.com/careertopics/careers/story/0,10801,84644,00.html?SKC=careers-84644
