CompTIA To Release New A+ Exams Nov. 26

9/10/2003 -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced today that it will be releasing the 2003 versions of its A+ exams on Nov. 26.

When live, these exams will instantly replace the versions to be released Friday, which are based on the 2001 objectives but contain unscored beta items covering 2003 objective topics. CompTIA has previously described the new objectives as a "minor update" to the 2001 set.

The exams will continue to be in linear format. CompTIA announced last month that it has dropped adaptive format permanently so that it can continually test beta items both for upgrades and to refresh the question pool.

CompTIA's A+ certification is made up of two exams: Core Hardware and OS. It is a vendor-neutral title designed for computer repair technicians. Once earned, the credential is good for life -- there is no need to upgrade.

Candidates who pass one 2001 exam will be allowed to mix-and-match with the 2003 exams to earn the title, the organization said.

9/16/03: Anonymous says: If you think A_plus is 'worthless' and 'useless', why are you even posting (trolling) here? Go IM your firend on AOL about J-Lo or something.
9/20/03: Elvis Bala from Lagos, Nigeria says: Well, I hope to take the exam God willing before November so, I don't think I should wait for the upgrade.
9/24/03: good for your elvis says: More power to ya, especially since CompTIA tests are probably only useful in Nigeria.
9/24/03: IT-VAR from Phoenix says: To all you nay sayers out there ... the CompTIA certs do have value and is one of the few things that separates the hot dogs from the real dogs. Check your attitude at the door and leverage your skillset with a cert. You'll feel better in the morning.
9/25/03: To IT-VAR from Phoenix says: Can you back their value up with concrete facts? I'm talking about statistics that prove your are such and such better off with the CompTIA cert then those who aren't. Sun, Cisco, and Microsuck have at least tried to put this type of validity behind their tests. They also go to such lengths as to prove what salary ranges you might attain with a certain cert. CompTIA has never done this to my knowledge. If they had proven numbers such as these, CompTIA wouldn't be slammed on as much. It would be relatively easy for them to do. Just have them reach out to their current cert holders and get feedback as to the relativity that their certs played in cert holder's current salary--knowing what salary range they have achieved is crucial as well. They won't do this because CompTIA officials know what will happen. Now do you get the picture as to why so many people don't put much weight into CompTIA's $200 PLUS tests?
10/7/03: Jack Doyle from Dublin Ireland says: I have just passed the A Plus and am proud to have this cert along with two others(Novell),I really am disappointed at those posting their negative views on this test,so I say to those wishing to pass the immortal words "GO FOR IT" you will feel proud afterwards, remember its your achievement that counts. Good luck
10/12/03: Anonymous says: aplus and netplus are now part of mcp and mcsa and then of course leads to mcse so it is quite obviuos that it leads to better pay. plus the morons who work at best buy are just that, MORONS. they can barely tell you the difference between a modem card and a NIC let alone walk in off the street and take this damn exam, it is not easy for anyone unless you have been a pc tech for 5 years or so and keep up on everything that comes out.
10/16/03: To Anon 10-12 says: Yes, you learn from A+ but that's not what the negativity is all about. People are negative because they do hold lots of CompTIA certs and are still unemployed. Face it, you can take your CompTIA certs to an HR person and have them evaluate what you are worth and I guarantee you they'll say you are worth a lot less than you think you are. Anymore, if it's not MCSE, CCN?, SCSA/SCNA, or any other big cert than it just doen't matter. CompTIA should focus on certifying Indians because this is the only croud getting and staying employed with these certs.
10/20/03: preston from mich says: sheesh, i was going to try for comptia's Aplus but the way you all make it sound, I might as well go buy soem more xbox games instead, at least then I can sit home jobless playing xbox.
10/31/03: Anonymous says: Why is there so much negativity on certifications?
