New CompTIA Convergence+ Cert Moving Forward

8/24/2005 -- Development of a new vendor-neutral, convergence-focused certification from the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is moving forward, the company says.

The company is currently looking for subject matter experts (SMEs) to participate in a first-round job task analysis panel for the new Convergence+ title, to be held Sept. 21 and 22 in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. The SMEs will work with the organization's staff and psyhometricians to develop core coverage areas for the upcoming title.

CompTIA announced earlier this year that it was considering adding a telephony-focused title to its suite of vendor-neutral exams, including A+, Network+ and Security+. A release date for the title has yet to be announced

The organization also announced it is developing a radio frequency identification (RFID) title earlier this year.

12/13/05: IKnowIt says: CompTIA's Convergence plus cert will be whack and worthless. This also includes its RFID plus cert. For some reason CompTIA has overlooked the very obvious, like a Database plus certification. Oracle, MySQL, SQL, etc... is everywhere. Creating an intro. cert for this is a clear path to money and will help people get into databases, SQL, database admin., etc.... The reason why Convergence and RFID are doomed to failure or being worthless is because the market is too small. Also the point of an intro. cert in those fields and how much people "with the soon to be worthless" Convergence and RFID cert will get PAID is major. CompTIA appears to be going down the wrong direction.
7/19/06: Comptia Junkie says: Well, Times have changed since the comment above was posted. RFID is big stuff and getting bigger by the minute. Think I'm making it up? Chances are you are using some type of RFID technology every day! Gate\ door pass', ATM card, express lane on the toll road. And that's just the beginning!
