Oracle Releases 7.3/8.0 Upgrade Exam

10/28/2003 -- Earlier this month Oracle released a new Oracle 9i upgrade exam for Oracle Certified Professionals, Database Administrators (OCP DBAs) certified on versions 7.3 and 8.0.

Prior to this release, the only one-exam upgrade option to 9i was for 8i DBAs.

With the new exam, "#1Z0-035: Oracle9i DBA New Features for Oracle 7.3 and Oracle 8 OCPs," 7.3 and 8.0 DBAs can now bypass the full 8i and 9i exam tracks and upgrade their certification to 9i for the price of a single Oracle exam: $125 (U.S.).

The exam is two hours long -- 30 minutes longer than the typical Oracle exam-- and features 84 questions. Candidates must answer 58 questions correctly to pass. Detailed objectives for the exam can be found here.

Oracle's other upgrade exams -- 7.3 to 8.0, 8.0 to 8i and 8i to 9i -- remain available. The company does not require candidates to upgrade their certifications when new versions come out, but provides these upgrade exams so that candidates can do so if they choose.

More information Oracle's upgrade program can be found here. -Becky Nagel

10/28/03: Dave Richardson Network Systems Engineer from St. Paul, Minnesota says: Maybe this is a redundant exam because I think you can take one exam to upgrade from 7.3 8 to 8i and then take that available upgrade to 9i. Any way, I'm taking the 8i track and upgrade to 9i. You can register and download the Oracle database software to learn the software. Don't dismiss this track because more business are using Oracle database software server at work.
11/10/03: Anonymous says: The exam is not redundant. Until the launch of the 035 exam, 7.3 OCPs had to take three exams to get to 9i OCP, and 8.0 OCPs had to take two exams to get to 9i OCP. Now they only have to take one exam. 8i OCPs can take one exam, 030, to upgrade to 9i OCP.
1/5/04: Viz says: Can someone help me with notes for this exam?
1/22/04: Anonymous says: Does this Exam also have Oracle 8 questions or only 8i & 9i Questions?
2/14/05: Wayne from South Africa says: I am currently still only 8i DBA OCP. I would like to complete my upgrade to 9i. What is the best book to help prepare for new feature in 9i. What is the exact exam number/name called for the exam from 8i to 9i. I single reference will be best - don't want to buy a tons of books. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks. WP
