Cisco Adds Simulation Questions to 3 More Exams

6/6/2002 -- Late yesterday, Cisco announced via its Web site that the company has completely updated five of its professional-level certification exams, adding flash-based simulation questions to three.

Effective immediately, candidates for Cisco's CCNP, CCDP and CCIP titles can register only for the new versions of the following exams:

Although the new versions are effective immediately, those who have already registered to take the previous versions of the above exams will be allowed to do so if their testing date is within the next six weeks.

Cisco said that anyone working toward the above titles can combine 640-6xx and 640-5xx exams for their requirements.

Cisco introduced the Flash-based simulation questions in its CCNA exam in April. At that time, many candidates were upset by Cisco's lack of prior warning about the change. According to various reports, it appears that this time around Cisco e-mailed at least some candidates last week alerting them to the upcoming switch.

6/24/02: Vertigo from South Africa says: I wrote 640-603 today and i must WARN everybody that the Sybex (Todd Lamne) book is not a good idea to study from for the new exam. I used this book extensively, and only checked a few paragraphs from the Cisco book. Almost everything is from the Cisco book only. I'm restudying 603 (yes i failed :((( from the cisco book and is going to stick to them this time, which is unfortunate because the cisco books are harder to understand. btw... they use macromedia flash for the simulations and i suggest running through the demo provided. It's a darn nightmare as i studied very hard for this. Lots and lots of trick questions. Cheers!
6/25/02: Network Engineer from India says: please tell me which books to go for the new 6xx track of cisco.I have cisco BCMSN will it do for the new track also ?
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: I have taken the 640-603, and 640-604 and passed with flying colors. I used just the Cisco Press books and did all the labs a bunch of times.
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: Make sure for the 640-604 know everything about Multicasting.
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: 640-603 - 55 Questions, passing 700, 75 min I got 855. One sim on configuring ospf "EASY". 640-604 - 57 Questions, passing 776, 75 min I got 901. No sims. A few surprise questions on 2900 switch not in book.
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: I used the old Cisco press books from the 640-5XX track and they so far have worked just fine. I did not use anything else. Just the Cisco press books and the labs that were in the books.
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: I would like to say I think Cisco did a great job trying to make the exams harder than the 640-5XX track.
6/25/02: JBird from Jersey says: How much BGP is on the routing ccnp exam? Is it mostly eigrp and ospf.
6/25/02: Spiderman[Marvel] from Florida says: I had a lot of EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF. To be honest you have to know all 3.
6/25/02: elvis says: Does anyone knows what's the 640-505 passing score?
