CompTIA To Raise Exam Fees

1/1/2002 -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced recently that it will raise the price of its certification exams on Feb. 1, 2002.

In the U.S., the cost of its A+ exams will rise from $132 to $139 on Feb. 1. Prices for other exams, including Network+, i-Net+ and Linux+, will rise from $190 to $199.

The last time CompTIA raised its exam fees was in January 2001, when it upped the priceapx. $5 US This time around, the increase will also effect several countries worldwide. For a complete list, click here. -B.N.

1/3/02: alab says: I agree with Twin One. CompTIA is the FIRST certification provider to successfully sue braindumps and is spearheading the initiative to earse the "paper certs" image. I heard from very reliable sources that CompTIA is also pulling together many certification majors (including Microsoft, Cisco, Novell...) for a Certification Security Council. This, I gather, will devote its attention to targeting cheaters and protecting the integrity of exams. I dont mind paying $7 or $10 more for CompTIA exams if they help my certification be worth more by removing these "quick fixes" for passing the exam and thereby diluting the value.
1/3/02: None says: Please! Did anyone really think about this? Well, for the new job seekers, get your college degree, that is something that no one can take away from you. In these days and times, $199 is a lot of money for a test. I think the committee need to come up with another plan...and soon.
1/3/02: Anonymous says: Some of us already have degrees (even advanced ones), but in a different field (myself-finance). Why should I have to spend over 4 years in school for many classes I will never use, or are outdated. And how does a paper degree prove that one is more competent than one who legitametely studied and practiced hands on for the certification exam? Its all about getting your foot in the door. Once you are in, the rest is up to you.
1/7/02: Anonymous says: I am reading all the peoples complaints about the raise in certifications and yet I don't see anyone complaining about their job or the fact that the certification may have gotten them the job. The price of education is ever growing and yet people still continue to educate themselves. some companies reimburse for the cost of certifications, while other raise your pay, go figure, paying out 200 dollars to get more money is like investing, you pay a broker to invest your money into certain stocks, WELL, you are investing money into yourself to earn more...the only ones who seem to complain are the ones who want something for nothing and want to be paid for not having to put forth the time, effort or money.... the rise in cost is nominal compared to the rewards
1/4/02: Mr. says: For many the rewards may be none, especially if they are paying out of their own pocket, and even negative if they are not working, and believe that getting any of these cockamanie certs will help them get them a job (any job or even an interview). If the "rewards" were so great, we wouldn't have people complaining, now would we?
1/4/02: Mr. says: Save your monies, people. If you feel the intense need, go for CCIE, or RHCE (the only two that still have a kernal of value)
1/5/02: Anonymous says: RHCE has no "kernal of value" except in your mind
1/6/02: jumix says: why are u guys all complaing ? i think comptia certifications are the best yet , they dont retire at the whims of the " top shots " unlike microsoft certifications
1/6/02: The says: CompTIA exams are already overpriced compared to Microsoft exams which everyone agrees are much more valued! CompTIA should reduce te prices and not increase them!!!
1/6/02: Corporal says: Why are the price of exams going up? All the corporations insist that their certifications are not for profit. Is the cost of thinking and/or writing going up? I think you're better off spending your $199 on a GameCube. Server+ and GameCube cost the same and won't get you a job. At least with the GameCube you'll have some fun! :)
