CompTIA Relaunching Gartner Certs April 2

3/30/2001 -- On April 2, the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) will relaunch two certifications it bought from the Gartner Group in February.

According to Fran Linhart, director of certification for CompTIA and a former Gartner certification manager, the name of the certifications have been changed -- "Project Management" is now "IT Project+," and "e-Business Fundamentals" is now "e-Biz+" -- however, the objectives remain the same.

IT Project+ is "designed for IT professionals with 12 months of experience in leading, managing and directing small IT projects. IT Project+ examines the business, interpersonal and technical skills required to successfully manage IT projects, as defined by experts in the industry," according to the CompTIA Web site.

e-Biz+ is "designed for technical and non-technical individuals who work in an e-Business environment. The exam measures a baseline of knowledge around the basic concepts, key issues and critical technologies of e-Business, supplying IT and business professionals with a foundation for contributing to e-Business solutions."

Linhart said that these two titles compliment CompTIA's current crop of certifications well. She explained that for those who first get the organization's A+, Network+ and/or other certifications, these new offerings are a logical next step. "Odds are, as you [move up in IT], you will do more and more project management. You need to be held accountable for the business side and the people knowledge that surround [such projects]."

Those already certified in the now-defunct Gartner versions will automatically be grandfathered into the new titles. To request a new certificate and a CompTIA I.D. card, call (630) 268-1818.

Like CompTIA's other certifications, IT Project+ and e-Biz+ are obtained by passing one multiple-choice exam, available through Vue and Prometric. Following is the basic outline for each:

Name of Exam IT Project+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 85
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code PK0-001
Languages English

Name of Exam e-Biz+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 60
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code EK0-001
Languages English

Further details on the certifications can be found on the CompTIA Web site. For e-Biz+, click here. For IT Project+, click here. -B.N.

7/18/01: S. says: If you really want to prepare for these certification exams, from experience i can tell you that if you can hack it through the courses (or through a few PC guts and OS's) and your still asking yourself<thinking> "Am I going to REALLY PASS this test?". Then maybe a good next step before jumping into the test would be to stop by a few local businesses or IT dept. and offer your services in an internship in desktop services (and they don't end up throwing you out the door) then you probably WILL have enough knowledge AND experience to pass the A+. Of course a few practice test software apps won't hurt your chances, and that will solidify your knowledge to the way they will ask you about what you know. thx for your time
7/20/01: kk says: where to find the n+ mock paper? help me! because i have failed once!!!!
7/20/01: JJcoolA+ says: I past the A+ exam!I thought the hardware was easy. I got in the 750's all you need is 660 or so. The O.S. was harder I failed the first time. It had alot of win2000 questions that i did not know because i was still running 98... then i findly past the O.S. by about 3 questions. ,but I PAST!!!
7/23/01: Niranjan says: I would know about A+ hardware certification. What is the advantages of this certification? Is it possible to get job, after get A+ cerft.?
7/24/01: Sickboy says: No, it's impossible to get a job after becoming A+ certified... retard
7/26/01: Anonymous says: Im CCSA,CWD,SSCP and RHCE certified, My major is doing web security and webdesign and Im 6 yrs experenice on Red Hat Linux. Im jobless for already 2yrs and playing with my kids everydays. IT field have no future ! Im plan to go open a little cafe in the mall now. Dont put too much hope on cert guys.
7/26/01: Anonymous says: Oh .. 1 more thing to add is Im only asking for $45,000 a yr but still no1 hire.
7/29/01: bobby says: I just bought a a+ study course from learnkey with michael meyers as the instuctor does anyone know if this is a good course to prepair for the a+ .
8/5/01: Anonymous says: As an A+ Network + instructor, I have been reading these comments with great interest. Since there seems to be so much anomosity towards people who hold certifications, i don't know if should even mention mine but if I'm going to teach, I had better have some. I took my A+ a few years ago after completing my MCSE. Compared to Microsoft exams, they were fairly easy. I also took the Network + exam so I would know what my students were in for and passed it easily with a 98. From reading the post here, I can see that several of you would never get past the interview for acceptance into class. You have unrealistic expectations and poor basic job skills. I wish you all the best of luck in your pursuits but if you continue to blame COMPTIA, the system, the instructor or whomever for your failures, you'll never reach your goals. Stay focused, don't let setbacks derail you and refuse to give up.
8/7/01: Anonymous says: To the A+, Network+ instructor and anyone out there. I have read all the hardware section in the book i bought (sybex). I would like to kow if their is any good books out their with review questions only. i want to prepare myself further before taking the exam. if anyone knows any books, please put a post regarding this. thanks
