MOUS Office XP Beta Exams Announced
3/23/2001 -- Microsoft announced this week a registration program for candidates interested in taking beta versions of its upcoming Office XP exams.
Candidates who register through the Microsoft Web site have a chance to sit for one or more of four new Office XP beta exams that have been announced:
- Microsoft Word 2002 Core
- Microsoft Excel 2002 Core
- Microsoft Word 2002 Expert
- Microsoft Excel 2002 Expert
According to the Microsoft Web site, testing will be conducted during May and June of this year at locations throughout the U.S. Not all registrants will be invited to participate -- selection will be based on location, industry, and familiarity with Office XP Version 2002 applications, among other factors
The beta exams are free, although some testing centers may charge a fee of $10 to $15. Each beta exam will include 25 to 35 questions and will have a time limit of 90 minutes. According to Microsoft, those who pass their selected beta exam will become MOUS XP certified.

I agree with Wanda. They just released Outlook and Project a few months ago!! Now, to stay current we have take these exams over again!! This is absurd, especially since the changes in the exam objectives are VERY minor. |

I have Office97 MOUS Master and AI. I was thinking that I should really take at least Word & Excel Expert to stay current because I am a Trainer and I don't like training something I haven't done. But now Microsoft have XP?!? Many companies in the UK haven't migrated to Office 2000 yet, and now XP? What are Microsoft playing at? My company also train MCSE's and so far, no one has qualified, but that doesn't stop Microsoft launching Whistler! Am I going crazy or is it Microsoft? |

Enough is enough ... there are many who have taken the 97 and 2000 exams (me being one of them, except Project) and now Micrsoft wants us to take XP! When there are many companies who have not upgraded to 2000. We should at least be given the option of taking the full exam or an update exam! |

Well Micro soft has to make everyone happy. Including the hard ware people. You see with every new upgrade ..you need bigger processors and more ram. You need bigger harddrive's.. Get it??? You keep me going I'll keep you going. It's all about money folks. Nothing more nothing less. |

You do not have to take the XP exams unless: 1) your company requires it 2) Microsoft will decertify those who haven't upgraded their credentials to XP 3) you want to keep your skills current. For now, the Office 97 and Office 2000 certifications are still valid. However, to be a certified instructor, you have to upgrade your MOUS AI to a MOUS MI. This is for both Office 97 and 2000. Only the Office 95 certifications have been discontinued. Remember that the purpose of recertifying is to show that your skills are current. |

It really isn't all about money. If you were around during the DOS days, a word processor was basically a typewriter that ran on a computer screen having similar features with the addition of spell and grammar check and ability to save files. That was it. We are so fortunate today to be able to create web pages, postcards, brochures, envelopes, and even program our new word processors (Visual Basic, etc.) to do thousands of things more. The features we take for granted today have been added over the years in response to user requests. I'm sure if you learned everything you need to know about Word that you could eliminate a lot of other individual software that does the same thing. |
