Oracle Reaches 60,000 OCPs

3/8/2001 -- Oracle Corp. announced last week that it has certified more than 60,000 individuals as Oracle Certified Professionals (OCPs). According to the company, this is a 100 percent increase over the past eight months.

The OCP program offers several titles, including Database Operator (DBO), Database Administrator (DBA), Application Developer (AD) and Java Developer.

Oracle refused to comment on which title grew the most, or give individual counts by track. "We don't release that information," said a company spokesperson.

3/23/01: Kevin says: I'm working on OCP(DBA) now. PL/SQL class was tough, but should be. It needs to weed out those who aren't prepared. Oracle needs to take the same attitude with the remaining courses so that OCP doesn't lose it's value.
3/26/01: ibrahim says: I passed the first two exams of the developer track. the second one (pl-sql) is less difficult than you might think in my opinion. they throw a lot of packages at you, however just the read the question and the answer before looking at the code...
4/4/01: STU says: MY DAUGHTER IN-LAW HAS MASTERS IN NUTRITIO WITH A+ GRADES AND VERY BASIC COMPTER SKILLS. WITHOUT ANY WORK EXPERIENCE DO YUO THINK PAYING 4000$+ FOR COURSES LEADING TO OCP AD MAKES ANY SENSE.IS CERTIFICATION FOR SOMEONE WITH GOOD MIND AND REASONABLE HARDWORK EASILY POSSIBLE OR VERY DIFFICULT. WHAT ARE HER CHANCES OF GETTING A STARTING JOB WITH CERTIFICATION AND NO EXPERIENCE
4/5/01: ibrahim says: Without any experience, it will be hard for someone certified to get a job right away. At least you can get an interview. However I heard of many people who got jobs just because of their certifications, so it's possible. You might want to check with people who did it! As for the cost, I took classes in a community college, you learn the same stuff at a fraction of the cost... Good luck.
4/13/01: Anonymous says: OCP (DBA)is well organized compared to MS examinations. I hope Oracle will continue maintain the same standard. It is worthwhile to become OCP for the people with hands on experience as DBA
4/19/01: Anonymous says: I passed all OCP exams in about 11 weeks time with a very hgh grade on each. But, I have 18 years experince in systems and many years experience with Oracle and other databases systems. Compared to other exams the OCP is difficult. The OCP questions are oriented toward an understanding of the systems and not memorization. They also like to throw a lot of unnecessary or misleading information at you. I have not seen a single 'paper ocp'. ie ceritified but no experience. I DO know of people that have quite a bit of Oracle experience that can not pass the tests however. I like the high standards Oracle has in place and hope they keep it that way.
4/22/01: Nicholas says: Please make OCP affordable, most of us cannot afford the fee. Are there any self paced training materials ? Please let me know ?. I'm an MCSE, MCP and want to be an OCP soon.
4/30/01: Sharma says: Iwant to be an OCP as soon as possible kindly please help me i
5/24/01: Rajan says: Could anyone of you please suggest any books for IZ0121, 1Z0122 or any study material. I could not find any book in the market except for one with Oracle Press 'Oracle Certified Deveoper'
6/6/01: dude says: i just did mcse 2000 and mcdba and can't seem to get any job let alone in Pakistan hahahah. I think work experience counts but i need to piss off to usa, can't get an H1 visa- bloody hell, pakistan has no job opps, i am gettin pissed!
