Cisco Launches Updated CCSP Exams

6/17/2003 -- Updated versions of four of Cisco's Certified Security Professional (CCSP) exams debut worldwide today: Securing Cisco IOS Networks (SECUR) (formerly MCNS), Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced (CSPFA), Cisco Secure VPN (CSVPN) and Cisco SAFE Implementation (CSI).

Rick Stiffler, senior manager of advanced technology training at Cisco, said that the company hasn't changed the major objectives of the exams, but they have been updated to reflect new technology. "As the technology is evolving on a very constant basis in the security arena, we're in a constant battle to keep the courses [and exams] updated," he explained. "Cisco is committed to keeping its portfolio of security courses and exams current so that IT professionals can acquire the knowledge and skills needed to build and deploy comprehensive security solutions."

News of most of the exam revisions first appeared on Cisco's Web site in April (see previous story, "Cisco Updating CCSP Exams," for details). With the official announcement today, Cisco acknowledged that the CSI exam, which was left off the April announcement, has also been updated. In addition, the debut of the new Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection Systems (CSIDS) exam has been moved up to October 7.

Several of the updated exams also count toward the company's security-related Cisco Qualified Specialist titles, which candidates can earn on their way to pursuing the CCSP or individually. The previous versions of the four exams released today will remain available for registration up to September 30, 2003. Candidates may take the exams up to six weeks after registration closes, provided that the exam was scheduled before the registration cutoff date.

More information on these updates can be found here. More information on the retiring exams can be found here. -Becky Nagel

6/28/03: Anonymous says: You know why? Because many people from somewhere in Middle East posted "send me study materials for CCNA" or send me this and send me that, to the extent that the muhammed guy posted to ask the readers to send him dumps. I mean, what kind of meaningless post is that, asking, or worse, giving order to anyone that you don't even know to send them stuff. That's just plain annoying for people who want to find information on this great site. And on what ground are they asking people to send them stuff while they never provided email or any contacts? Oh maybe there was one guy who gave his complete address in Pakistan asking someone to mail him books on Cisco certifications overseas. So that's why.
7/21/03: muhammed from Pakitan says: People don’t have courage when they post mail as anonymous. We Indian and Pakitani are morally at high ground. I protest against the negative bias comments about my country and myself. These dump, which I asked, was not written by any Indian or Pakistani. Politely saying it is not the right forum is acceptable. Poor guys who post these mails don’t have any Etiquette. They should come to Pakistan we will teach them. Etiquettes and IT both! We know that west is afraid of Indian and Pakistani... Soon we will rule the IT world and teach you what is IT and what is security. Muhammad - A Proud Pakistani.
8/6/03: The One says: I beleive that the comment by muhammed above is Racist and I am offended that People in Pakistan think that way about IT in America. Why would he want dumps if he new his stuff? Just another punk no matter what country!
10/8/03: Aditya Gupta from The Hindu India says: soon i go for a cisco certified security professional
10/23/03: Osama from Egypt says: i'm CSS1 and i want to take the CSI exam (642-541), and i waould like to ask if i'm still eligible to get the CCSP certification after taking that exam or i have to take all the exams of the new certification
11/8/03: Miami_dude says: Dont generalise by saying "we Indians and Pakistanis".Pakistanis are Pakistanis and Indians are more mannered.I hardly believe that Pakistanis have any Etiquette and IT to teach others.First you have make the country 50% literate, then u come here and comment....
5/11/04: Omodara Adelana from Nigeria says: so guys gist me about the cutoff score for the CCSP exams and the relevant materials available. cheers
7/21/04: daniel from middle east says: hai all
