Cisco Launches Updated CCSP Exams

6/17/2003 -- Updated versions of four of Cisco's Certified Security Professional (CCSP) exams debut worldwide today: Securing Cisco IOS Networks (SECUR) (formerly MCNS), Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced (CSPFA), Cisco Secure VPN (CSVPN) and Cisco SAFE Implementation (CSI).

Rick Stiffler, senior manager of advanced technology training at Cisco, said that the company hasn't changed the major objectives of the exams, but they have been updated to reflect new technology. "As the technology is evolving on a very constant basis in the security arena, we're in a constant battle to keep the courses [and exams] updated," he explained. "Cisco is committed to keeping its portfolio of security courses and exams current so that IT professionals can acquire the knowledge and skills needed to build and deploy comprehensive security solutions."

News of most of the exam revisions first appeared on Cisco's Web site in April (see previous story, "Cisco Updating CCSP Exams," for details). With the official announcement today, Cisco acknowledged that the CSI exam, which was left off the April announcement, has also been updated. In addition, the debut of the new Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection Systems (CSIDS) exam has been moved up to October 7.

Several of the updated exams also count toward the company's security-related Cisco Qualified Specialist titles, which candidates can earn on their way to pursuing the CCSP or individually. The previous versions of the four exams released today will remain available for registration up to September 30, 2003. Candidates may take the exams up to six weeks after registration closes, provided that the exam was scheduled before the registration cutoff date.

More information on these updates can be found here. More information on the retiring exams can be found here. -Becky Nagel

6/19/03: M. Satish Kini from Bangalore, India says: Looks like this CCSP will take a top spot in the most wanted security certifications, i will certainly acquire this one !!
6/19/03: Anonymous says: Hey muhammed, who do you think you are huh giving order to people to send you stuff. Do you think we care about people from Pakistan and take our time to send you braindumps shit to get you pass the exams, be a security expert (expert by braindumps?) so that you can come to here work and eventually make trouble? Stay in your country and get a construction or plumbing job or something if you can't even get materials for your own study and test, and stop bugging people in the forum, because WE DON'T CARE!!!
6/20/03: Anonymous from UK says: Hey Muhammed. Ask for test answers and braindumps at the same time as touting for a job as a security 'expert.' Smooth move. If you manage to get a sponsor can you let me know who the idiot who hired you was 'cause I fancy a trip across the pond :)
6/20/03: Anonymous says: Guys why don't one focus one C.C.I.E. security better than CCSP....in all ways ;
6/20/03: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: BUNCH 'O POSTS REMOVED -- No surprise, all made by one person (no, not Mo'). You know who you are, we know who you are. Please get a life and stop wasting my and the rest of our readers' time -- Becky Nagel, Editor, CertCities.com
6/20/03: Moe Munee says: I told you it wasn't me!
6/25/03: Renato Vilela from Brazil says: Is this a space for user comments on the article or a "delayed chat" for frustrated non-CCSPs?
6/25/03: Sasi from India says: CCSP another milestone. CCSP then CCIE Sec would be better choice......demand for Sec folks are more now and in near future Only 7 CCSPs r in India now and in Aisia 100 Wolrd wide 700 !!
6/26/03: Mohammed MuZammiL from United Arab Emirates says: I admit being a 'Pakistani' based in The 'United Arab Emirates', what Muhammed did was wrong, however that does mean people should post RACIST comments, by allowing RACIST Comments againts any nationality, CertCities approves of Racism. CertCities people moved fast on Removing Muhammed’s post, why are racist ones still here??? There should be ZERO tolerance for racism & racist comments. Please don’t forget U.S.A. is considered a cultural meting pot. Apart from the Native Americans almost everyone came from some country or the other. I would request CertCities to delete/moderate posts or block IPs of people posting racist comments in any form. There’s NO point to mud slinging! This is a place to learn, share and educate!
6/26/03: Becky Nagel from Web Editor, CertCities.com says: Hi Mohammed -- You're right, we don't allow racist posts, and I do try to remove them as soon as possible (as I did with the ones on this thread). If there's one that you think we missed, please e-mail directly with information on where it's posted and I'll track it down.-- Becky Nagel, Editor, CertCities.com
