UPDATED:CompTIA To Raise Exam Prices 4 Percent in April

3/11/2003 -- A spokesperson for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) told CertCities.com today that it will be raising prices on most of its certification exams 4 percent next month.

On April 11, the non-member price of CompTIA's A+ exams will rise to $145, an increase of $6. Most of its other exams -- including Network+, Linux+, Server+ and i-Net+ -- will cost $207, up from their current $199 price tag.

The cost of CompTIA's Security+ exam will not change. Its non-member price is $225.

CompTIA posted the following statement explaining the increase on its Web site: "Pricing adjustments are necessary to allow for continued exam maintenance and upgrading. As technology develops, continued review and upgrading of test items ensures that the certifications continue to accurately reflect current industry standards."

CompTIA typically raises exam prices incrementally every year. Last year, prices rose from $5 to $9 dollars per exam, or 4.5 to 5 percent. The hike generally comes in January.

The above nonmember prices (members are eligible for discounts) are valid for North America. CompTIA said on its Web site that it will post any international prices affected as the information becomes available.

3/14/03: Elvis from New York says: Ronald no need to get personal and no need to be upset. I told you I would help you with your Certifications. The A plus you earned ten years ago is too old. You need to upgrade your life now and forget about moving forward with the IT world.
3/14/03: hahaha says: boys, boys, why don't you just hush and get yourselves a room, 'kay?????? :)
3/14/03: Desperate says: People loosing their jobs and prices increasing. This is joke????
3/14/03: Vendor Whotrail? from Dallas says: So, you need certs AND a degree? Here are my personal and legitimate qualifications - A.A.S., BA, A+, Network+, I-Net+, CNA, MCP, MCSE 4.0, MCSE+I, MCSE Win2k, Exchange Messaging Engineer, Unemployed....
3/17/03: why bother from oz says: The cost is too high for these certs. I'd rather spend my time and money on vendor certs. I thought the security test might be good practice for the cissp, but not anymore. 2much$$$ I agree that the entry level certs they have should be less expensive for newbies trying to get into IT.
3/17/03: hmmm from oz again says: Hey vendor - don't tell people every single cert you have! Limit it like - your name, BA, MCSE, CNA - hide the other details like a+ in the resume, but don't list it all! It helped me.
3/18/03: Vendor says: Whats a resume?
3/18/03: Anonymous says: BetMen has to spend mo' money!
3/18/03: matt murdock from hell's kitchen says: Forget about CompTIA now. Consider these alternatives: CCNA (instead of network plus). CIW Associate (instead of inet plus). MCSA (get this and there's no need for server plus). RHCT (new $300 hands on lab cert from Red Hat; take this instead of Linux plus). CIW Security Professional (instead of Security plus; mcse or ccnp is a prerequisite though). All of the aforementioned certs carry more weight than any CompTIA preschooler crap. Convince yourself of the worthlessness of CompTIA certs by doing nationwide searches on Dice, Monster, etc for any comptia non-Aplus cert. You won't get any results. I say just go for the more popular or more prestigious certs. The value of CompTIA certs is obviously not worth the price. No it's not a $5 or $8 increase I'm bitching about; it's the fact that we are no longer entitled to DISCOUNTS from resellers (yes, last week's topic). $200 per exam? Forget it. Use that for blasting your resume multiple times or buying a used 2503 router on eBay for your CCNA lab or 4 tickets to a baseball game.
3/19/03: Tony You from uk says: pls i want u all to know that it is not , ok by me ,ok. Tony You
