New MS Security Exam Under Development

6/26/2002 -- Earlier this week, Microsoft released information on development of a new security-based exam.

According to the exam objectives guide posted at http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/exams/70-214.asp, Exam 70-214, Implementing and Administering Security in a Windows 2000 Network is an MCSA and MCSE elective that's expected to be released in beta form in November 2002.

The exam follows on the heels of comments that Microsoft's training and certification group made earlier this year regarding possible development of a security certification (see "Microsoft Considering Desktop, Security Certs").

MCPMag.com will bring you more information on this exam as it becomes available. - Michael Domingo, MCPmag.com

7/3/02: Anonymous says: security and implementation go hand-in-hand, so seperate tests is stupid and shows how lame MS is
7/7/02: micro$uck does nothing 4me says: There is no such thing as a viable sentence with the words "security" and "microsoft" at the same time. period.
7/10/02: Mrs. Bill Gates from Bill Gates Way says: I find all of these comment very funny. The truth is ... Bill and I are having hard times since we made that rather large donation. I told him that the money would be better spent elsewhere....like a new boob job for me. Anywho..so the the truth is, as history shows, when we need something new we create a new Exam, take your money and keep on keeping on until the next toy comes along. I am sure that Bill squeeze a squeeze in your honor.
7/10/02: Bishop says: Security is just the flavor of the month. A year ago nobody heard of CISSP, or whatever it is and now it's the New Coke of the IT field.
7/20/02: Hector from California says: As far as Microsoft Certs go I would only pursue DBA or Developer certs. I am sick of the MCSE, too many people have it and when you see or hear of MCSE the value is shot to hell as well as the pay. Everybody and their mother is getting the MCSE cert. I will tell you though that less than half of these certified as an MCSE are not working in a Windows 2000 environment, OK maybe their desktops are Windows 2000 or XP. I have opted to limit my choices to certify the Microsoft route because the MCSE is a joke when it comes to getting hired, nobody cares about it, IT IS EXPECTED of any IT person to know Microsoft's Enterprise Windows 2000, so why get certified in it. Any way Windows 2000 will be old news by the beginning of year and we are still trying migrate know from Netware. Freakin Ridiculous. The only people that I know that are certified or have several certs from Microsoft are people who hardly use Microsoft products. most IT folks just don't have alot of time to pursue these certs. I said my peace. And yeah I am a Microsoft fan that is quite sick of the MCSE certification game.
7/21/02: sucka-free from los angeles says: WHATEVER!!!
9/5/02: Duane Alexander from Crestview, Florida says: Just got an e-mail from Microsoft saying I could take the Beta version for free in October, and if I pass receive credit for as an elective.
