Cisco Hikes Exam Fees 25 Percent

10/31/2001 -- Cisco announced last week that it will be raising the price of its core certification exams in North America. Starting tomorrow, Nov. 1, all exams that used to cost $100 (i.e., those starting with numbers "640" and "9E0") will now cost $125 (U.S.). Also, the Foundations exam (640-509) -- which is a "combo" exam for the company's CCNP and CCDP titles --- will now cost $250 instead of $200.

This is the second price hike that Cisco has announced this year. In March, the company raised the price of its CCIE qualification and lab exams.

11/2/01: Drec says: Well, Judging from Nathan Root's use of the English launguage, he won't be going very far with, or without the ccna.
11/2/01: Anonymous says: I THINK THIS IS NOT FAIR, TO EARN MONEY FROM TESTING FEE,BECAUSE EACH CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL IS HELPING AND INDIRECTLY ADVERTISING CISCO PRODUCT. CISCO CAN INCREASE ITS PRICE ON ITS PRODUCT BUT NOT INCREASE THE TESTING FEE.
11/3/01: Anonymous says: I have 6 years IT infrastructure project management experience, A+, Net+, (2) MCP's, CCNA and just got passed over for a Help Desk supervisor position at my night job, for someone that had 8 years retail experience between Wal Mart and HEB (a local grocery chain). So I'm still stuck at $28k. I sent out four resumes recently for entry level admin jobs and did not recieve so much as a "thanks, but no thanks" letter. I've come to the conclusion that most HR personnel are just plain clueless.
11/5/01: Anonymous says: i thnk its agood thing to make more expensive to attain a cisco qualification . it prevents cisco's certifications becomming commonplace and "cheap" like our mcse friends . if its what you live for and you realize the potential that spending the extra bucks on an exam could bring you , then i see no reason to comlpain .
11/6/01: Beeyotch says: I don't like it. Especially since I'm one test away from my CCNP. However that CCNP will pay for itself. Just suck it up and drive on.
11/6/01: Me says: For all those complaining about all ther certs they have and how little they make... let me join in too!!! I have MCSE 4.0, MCP, MCP + Internet, A+, Network+, I-net+, CCNA, 4 years of computer science at the University, 6 months trade school, few years work experience and make 20 K!!!!
11/7/01: Rich says: Get on salary.com people! Print out your title, take it to your manager, and get a raise. If this won't work, maybe you are in need of moving to a new state, new job, or getting a personality and kissing ass.....worst case, Taco Bell starts at $8.50....aim high my IT friends!
11/7/01: Matthew says: I think it's funny to hear all of you network nerds argue back and forth about certs and salaries...
11/7/01: me says: What Taco Bell you work at??!! Down here Taco Bell starts at $6.00. Damn! $8.50 for Taco Bell where you are? That is almost as much as I make!
11/8/01: Nas says: Well CisCCCCCO should charge EXXtra on the product NOT on the "Test Fee" $$$$$$%
