New Network+ Exam Now Live
5/10/2005 -- The latest version of the Computing Technology Industry Association's (CompTIA's) Network+ exam is now live and available at Pearson Vue and Prometric testing centers worldwide.
The new version, N10-003, is the second update of the organization's entry-level, vendor-neutral networking technologies exam, originally released in 1999. It contains 85 questions, has a 90 minute time limit and requires a minimum score of 554 on a scale of 100 to 900 to earn the title.
A comparison of the objectives of the new exam and the previous version, N10-002, are available on CompTIA's Web site here. N10-002 will be retired on June 30, the organization said.
According to CompTIA, more than 150,000 people are Network+ certified worldwide. The update will not affect those already holding the title, as CompTIA certifications do not expire.

Network pluss is a joke. read the book in 15 days durring my lunch hour and got a 900 WITH NO EXPERENCE. I agree on the MCSE in 2003. those exams are tough. passed 290 no problem. 291!! failed it twice before passing. 293 and 294 are easy and 297 and 299 are not bad. The key to the MCSE in 2003. YOU NEED TO HAVE EXPERENCE!!! |

I teach Net plus for a fortune 500 company. My students are seasoned technicians, most with 10-20 years of experience. Many of our customers are now asking for a Minimum of CompTIA Net plus in their RFP's, so we started requiring our guys get certified. At first we too just said read the book, but only about 65% passed the first time. Once we started our own 1 week boot camp, we pass about 95% on the first try. Yes you need the info, but the right info and what not to waist time learning too. My 2 Cents |

Took the Beta and passed with a 814. I've a fair bit of experience and a lot of book smarts. It strikes me that the pass mark is way too low. The exam seemed reasonably fair except for one question on DHCP which evinced a lack of understanding about how IP works. Hope they fixed it. Also took the Linux Plus Beta and passed by the skin of my teeth. Still have my doubts about what any cert exam really means in the long run, including the 2003's which seem decidedly unpopular compared to their predecessors, based on the number of 2003 MCSEs. Most of the stuff you need to know for the 2003 exam can be found out via Google or TechNet. So what the MS exams are testing is how you do without your typical set of knowledge tools around. Does that really test your competence as an admin? Something to think about. |

I think the N+ certification lays a solid networking foundation, if taken seriously. This kind of foundation building is not provided by advanced certs like CCNA, MCSE etc, that solely focus on their respective vendor's products. I'm A+ certified and currently preparing for the N+, I gotta like shell out a whole months salary for this exam, hope I make it the first time :-| Regards, Vinoo202. |

I hold about 10 certs and the network plus exam was very easy even compared to the other comptia exams i have taken (server, security, linux, and A). It does make a good prep exam for the CCNA though.. |
