CompTIA Relaunching Gartner Certs April 2

3/30/2001 -- On April 2, the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) will relaunch two certifications it bought from the Gartner Group in February.

According to Fran Linhart, director of certification for CompTIA and a former Gartner certification manager, the name of the certifications have been changed -- "Project Management" is now "IT Project+," and "e-Business Fundamentals" is now "e-Biz+" -- however, the objectives remain the same.

IT Project+ is "designed for IT professionals with 12 months of experience in leading, managing and directing small IT projects. IT Project+ examines the business, interpersonal and technical skills required to successfully manage IT projects, as defined by experts in the industry," according to the CompTIA Web site.

e-Biz+ is "designed for technical and non-technical individuals who work in an e-Business environment. The exam measures a baseline of knowledge around the basic concepts, key issues and critical technologies of e-Business, supplying IT and business professionals with a foundation for contributing to e-Business solutions."

Linhart said that these two titles compliment CompTIA's current crop of certifications well. She explained that for those who first get the organization's A+, Network+ and/or other certifications, these new offerings are a logical next step. "Odds are, as you [move up in IT], you will do more and more project management. You need to be held accountable for the business side and the people knowledge that surround [such projects]."

Those already certified in the now-defunct Gartner versions will automatically be grandfathered into the new titles. To request a new certificate and a CompTIA I.D. card, call (630) 268-1818.

Like CompTIA's other certifications, IT Project+ and e-Biz+ are obtained by passing one multiple-choice exam, available through Vue and Prometric. Following is the basic outline for each:

Name of Exam IT Project+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 85
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code PK0-001
Languages English

Name of Exam e-Biz+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 60
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code EK0-001
Languages English

Further details on the certifications can be found on the CompTIA Web site. For e-Biz+, click here. For IT Project+, click here. -B.N.

9/23/01: Frank says: hey guys I am here to take the Network+ test, I am A+ and have to finish 70-216 for my MCSE on wed. I have exam prep Network + but keep hearing about a beta? I am here from Incirlik Airbase and have to return on next sunday, and for Steve....I work with the Airforce on ONW no I am not in the Airfarce(no misspelling), I know what the military will try to teach you...get a life :) and Sickboy RLTW, but I like the way you gave your op order to that leg, drop me a line anytime
9/23/01: Frank says: as for correct spelling, writtng and so on most people just slam dow a message to get it out
9/24/01: Max says: Hello everyone....I got 771 on my OS and 788 on my Core part and I PASSED! I'm now considered an IT Professional...It took me 2 months to prepare for these exams...It was tough studying all those countless hours but it was worth...Word of advice, don't rely on those fast pace books...Once you know the logic, it doesn't matter what questions they ask, you will know the answer...When I took my OS today, I knew most of the answers right away...I'm just happy now, now I'm prepaparing for my MCSE...That's a big hill to climb but if you believe in yourself it will happen!
9/29/01: John says: I recently have taken the A+ exam. I took the Core on 9/04/01 and passed. The O/S was taken on the 9/07/01 and passed. These test were adaptive. The test given were from 20-30 questions depending on the dificulty of the test questions etc. Passing is 596 for the Core and 600 for the O/S. Some of the books out on the market are out of touch with the test. There were questions from Dos,Win95,Win98,and Win2000. Just the very basics in Dos. The best Book I have seen is by Michael Meyers for A+ Certification. The added Plus would be to purchase the test advertised in the book. I had taken a class given by Total Seminars. The class totaly prepared me for the test. The instructor was good and time was given to real wourld problems. I am just an average person and if I could grasp the information and pass the test I truly believe that with the proper preperation anyone could pass the test. Final Word...If you have very little hands on experience find a class. Please be sure they teach you how to work on and repair computers,NOT HOW TO PASS A TEST. Granted the test is more difficult as there is more information to pull from. Good Luck to ALL. JW -- [email protected]
11/9/01: Vette says: I am an A+ instructor who has a track record of 100% pass ratio for all my 23 passing students thus far. Another class at the school where I teach has let out, as the students take the A+ exam. I notice a high failure ratio since the adaptive test has come out. One very bright student who I personally helped prep for the exam even failed he insists that he passed the test that it was very easy after he called comp-tia he was told that he recieved an easy test that his questions point total was not high enough to pass the test if he answered every question correct!!! How can they give a test where it is impossible to pass??? They even gave him a voucher to retake the test for free he passed the second time bareley still ery angry that his score just enough to pass that module he called again to complain they said once again he recieved an easy test that the point value was not enough to get him a perfect score!!! does anyone else have this problem I fear that my students although very preared may not pass comptia's scam of a test. email me with your experiences [email protected]
11/26/01: Suran says: I passed my A+ core adaptive test with a score of 800/1300 and my A+ 0S with a score of 795/1300.
12/24/01: Tanmoy says: Hi....I want to know where can i get mock tests for SSCP...please mail me at [email protected] in advance...
2/19/02: Mutoni Dorothy from South Africa says: Are students going to attend the conferences. If so is there a provision you have made for disadvantaged students that may not be able to afford the money yet want to attend the conference.
6/14/02: vivek kumar saxena from delhi says: plese send me study material thanks
5/2/04: Jaarin96 from Texas says: Hey Becky Nagel What do all of these above posts ranting and raving about CompTIA have to do witht eh article on the relaunch of the old Gartner certs? I have yet to see one relevant posting in this thread.
