CompTIA Relaunching Gartner Certs April 2

3/30/2001 -- On April 2, the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) will relaunch two certifications it bought from the Gartner Group in February.

According to Fran Linhart, director of certification for CompTIA and a former Gartner certification manager, the name of the certifications have been changed -- "Project Management" is now "IT Project+," and "e-Business Fundamentals" is now "e-Biz+" -- however, the objectives remain the same.

IT Project+ is "designed for IT professionals with 12 months of experience in leading, managing and directing small IT projects. IT Project+ examines the business, interpersonal and technical skills required to successfully manage IT projects, as defined by experts in the industry," according to the CompTIA Web site.

e-Biz+ is "designed for technical and non-technical individuals who work in an e-Business environment. The exam measures a baseline of knowledge around the basic concepts, key issues and critical technologies of e-Business, supplying IT and business professionals with a foundation for contributing to e-Business solutions."

Linhart said that these two titles compliment CompTIA's current crop of certifications well. She explained that for those who first get the organization's A+, Network+ and/or other certifications, these new offerings are a logical next step. "Odds are, as you [move up in IT], you will do more and more project management. You need to be held accountable for the business side and the people knowledge that surround [such projects]."

Those already certified in the now-defunct Gartner versions will automatically be grandfathered into the new titles. To request a new certificate and a CompTIA I.D. card, call (630) 268-1818.

Like CompTIA's other certifications, IT Project+ and e-Biz+ are obtained by passing one multiple-choice exam, available through Vue and Prometric. Following is the basic outline for each:

Name of Exam IT Project+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 85
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code PK0-001
Languages English

Name of Exam e-Biz+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 60
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code EK0-001
Languages English

Further details on the certifications can be found on the CompTIA Web site. For e-Biz+, click here. For IT Project+, click here. -B.N.

6/10/01: Christine says: The OS exam for A+ was EXTREMELY HARD when I took mine today....... GOSHHHHHHHH
6/12/01: Kernel says: Ummm..... I have no idea why ppls blame to CompTIA when they failed exams ??? (may be he/she is not well prepared yet ! .... then, u shouldn't blame to CompTIA ....) Once who is well prepared and have enuff hands-on, no reason to take the exam twice .... It is recommended to get some hands-on b4 taking the exam ... What i can gurantee is that the person who has enuff hands-on experiences in related fields can easily pass those CompTIA exams with great passing scores without the need of too much study time ... And never try to use braindumps to pass the exams .... coz' it is just spoiling yourself ..... LEARN HARD AND WORK HARD BEFORE YOU TAKE THE EXAMS To be certified means not to pass the exam but to show that what u know what you are doing ... that's all .. as for me, i'm now preparing for the Server+ and also for the coming Linux+ ...... Kernel4x (MCP+I, MCSE, A+, Network+, i-Net+) CompTIA ID: COMP10411694 MCP ID: 2213350
6/13/01: PM says: I cannot believe the comments from some of the prospective CompTia "Graduates" , between the inability to spell or express themselves properly (even allowing for non english speakers)It bodes very poorly for the future of the IT industry ingeneral and the CompTia certifications specificly if this is the calibre of candidate it attracts. I feel embarassed to admit I have my CompTia Certs if it in any way associates me with these people. God help them ifg they ever attempt a relatively difficult cert like CCNP of CCIE or CCSA. I'll even admit it was hard work for me to gain these certifications but for anybody to even imagine A+ or Net+ are difficult is laughable. :))) I'm not attempting to be elitist but like an earlier poster commented.. maybe you are better suited to another career path as I seriously doubt IT is you area of expertise. Its also not that easy to gain entry level employment or to earn big salaries even though you may have benn told it is. I hope this missive offers you some guidance before you become even more frustrated or waste even more time and money or certs you probably will NEVER pass. :(
6/16/01: Christine says: I just want to say the guy PM just right above my msg here, he should shut up and stop pretending he is somethings. Everybody can speak what they want and comment. If you dont like it just stop reading this page. We are free to talk and free to give comment to others. Well ..... SHUT UP PM.
6/16/01: C- student in English says: I'm very impressed with PM's English. I hope he/she didn't have an A+ in English. It's interesting to see whether that writing can pass any spelling and grammar check!
6/17/01: Tommy says: What an ugly name call "PM" !!!! How about you call yourself as "PMS" ??? HAHAHAHA ..... Want to tell everybody here the guy up there name PM he is really SUCKSSS!!! Stop act like you are good but actually u are a loser WE CAN TELL.
6/18/01: Anonymous says: HELLO, Please post ANY info on the E-biz+ cert. I am looking for any books or classtime that will help me with this. I have called CompTia twice, they keep giving me info about a business, but they don't have anything on E-biz+. Thank you.
