Apple Readies ACSA 10.3 Exams for "Spring" Release

3/10/2004 -- Apple recently announced that it will be releasing several 10.3 exams for its systems administration credential over the next few months.

Two exams will be required to earn the 10.3 version of Apple's Certified Systems Administrator (ACSA) title:

  • System Administration of Mac OS X Clients (9L0-606)
  • System Administration Using Mac OS X Server (9L0-607)

Both exams will cost $150 and be available through Prometric testing centers worldwide.

Those previously certified as an ACSA 10.2 can take a new upgrade exam, Apple Certified System Administrator v10.3 Update exam (9L0-608), scheduled to be released around the same time. The exam will cost $150. The upgrade is not required.

Apple has also announced several exams relating to its new Certified Desktop Technician (ACDT) and Certified Portable Technician (ACPT) titles, but has yet to confirm a release date.

More information on Apple's certification program can be found here. -Becky Nagel

3/12/04: MacMan from somewhere says: Someone: I know that most certs are jokes - take the cram classes and pass. We certainly laugh at the MS certs here. But Apple has gone out of their way to make these classes mean something. Particularly the ACSA classes and the server class in particular. That SOB is --hard-- and gives you a cert with some meaning.
3/14/04: LinuxMan from the server room says: MS certs are not jokes. I am proud of my MCSA and I laugh at the ACSA. MS controls a lot more market that Apple does.
3/15/04: MacMan from somewhere says: LinuxMan - that is not an argument for the quality of MS certs. You can buy a cheap cram class and pass them. The widespread knowledge of this fact means that those in the know are aware that they have no real value. MS's market penetration may mean that unknowledgable people may value them, but that does not mean that their acquisition actually indicates a significant level of knowledge in the holder. What is the basis of your amusement at the ACSA certification? Have you taken the classes? At our major research university, even the holders of MCSA certs realize their lack of value.
3/17/04: LinuxMan says: I guess I don't really have any right to say ACSA has no value. I have never taken the classes or anything. I just don't know anywhere who uses OS X servers besides the local school district and none of there tech's have any *nix experience. I guess I just don't see this cert in demand. Maybe I am wrong.
3/30/04: Anonymous says: Thats amazing...I didn't realise that you could still buy Apple computers.
