Apple Releases New Desktop Cert

12/18/2003 -- Late last month Apple released its new desktop certification, Apple Certified Help Desk Specialist (ACHDS).

The title, which was named as December's "Certification of the Month" by Prometric Testing Centers, is Apple's first OS X credential aimed specifically at technicians who focus on the client version of Mac OS X, said Sharon Martin, Apple certification manager. "[The ACSA and ACTC] focus on OS X Server...so we saw a need for a title to certify expertise of those working just with the client," she explained.

With the debut, the title's one exam -- Mac OS X Help Desk Essentials v10.3 (9L0-400) -- will be a requirement for the 10.3 track of Apple's Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) title (scheduled for release in early 2004), as well as an elective requirement for Apple's two hardware-focused certifications: the Apple Certified Desktop Technician (ACDT) and the Apple Certified Portable Technician (ACPT).

The ACHDS exam is available at Prometric testing centers in several locations worldwide for $150 (US). Candidates must obtain an ID from Apple before registering.

More information on the ACHDS can be found here. -Becky Nagel

12/20/03: Anonymous says: Why must take Apple cert one? They are not so popular compared to Windows what. Coz not many people use it so lesser people need support persons for the system lor. So no need to take this one lar, don't even bother to use Mac. This cert is surely waste of time and money one...
12/22/03: Anonymous says: duh... you might take this cert if you work in a company that uses macs. They are used quite a lot in media and design companies, but you wouldn't know that if you've only worked on the helpdesk at pcworld.
12/22/03: Smoky McPot says: If you actually worked in media and design companies as I do you'd see we are using Windows machines as the best software and a better selection of hardware comes on the Wintel platform.
1/13/04: sir gawain from earth says: Is there any learning material available for Apple Certs apart from expensive official courses?
1/14/04: Anonymous says: Yeah; your mom.
1/17/04: Guesss98 says: Well some of us have to support both IT Worlds. And deal with the intergration headachs as well. So if anyone out there knows of any material available (other than official apple stuff) ?
3/9/04: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: I haven't seen anything yet -- most likely because it's still a smaller program. Apple's also constantly updating, which I'm sure creates headaches for content providers. If I do run into anything, I'll be sure to post it here.
4/4/04: Kieu Ta says: Is there any practice online Exam for Apple Destop Hardware Exam (9L0-002)? please let me know.thanks.Ta
