How much are the exams? Same price as the XP retail $75. They sell vouchers for $60. I got some study materials on pdf. Plus I downloaded the cramsession files of the Microsoft Office XP/2000 guides. So the testing centers are not the same as Prometric and Vue? |

Hi Gene -- I've heard they average around $70 -- Microsoft allows the testing centers to set their own price for these exams. And yes, it's only available at IQ testing centers. Honestly, I've been hearing a lot of talk on this site and a ton of others. The consensus I get is that things will never change around, that IT careers are short-lived at best, and that there's really no point in studying for vendor-specific tests because no-one can really confirm which ones will land someone a job. Experience, education, certification...and the mice keep running around the track. Do lawyers, accountants, nurses, doctors, insurance reps, or even teachers have this much stress in their careers? If not, where do I sign up. There was a time when I enjoyed learning IT skill sets...but now it seems like whatever you learn doesn't really mean a damn thing. Is outsourcing really the big negative impact everyone claims it is...or do companies simply not care about IT? Now that companies have their equipment in place, is there any benefit in upgrading? I just want to know, is IT completely dead now? I'd love to hear some honest answers.............especially before I waste more time on another perceived "useless" certification exam |

Being an educator you are always going back to learn new material and you have to pay for it yourself. If someone is not interested in keeping up to date with the latest technology then you should look into a career change. There are several certifications available, too many at times, but you have to focus on what is your interest area. Having a degree is a major plus adding certifications on top of it does help. Technology change will continue, if you want to continue in IT you must learn the new material. As for the 2 anonymous posts about Office 2003 and XP, get a life. |
