CISSP Exam Fee To Rise $49 in 2004

10/8/2003 -- This week the International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium [(ISC)2] announced that the price of its Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam will rise to $499 in 2004.

Currently, those who register for the exam at least 16 calendar days in advance pay $450.

As per the current policy, those who do not pre-register will pay $100 more.

The price of the organization's Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) exam will also rise. Advance registration will be $369, a $19 increase. The price rises to $469 for those who do not pre-register.

In 2004 candidates will be charged as follows for the organization's three CISSP Specialization exams (CISSP Information Systems Security Architecture Professional, CISSP Information Systems Security Engineering Professional , and CISSP Information Systems Security Management Professional):

  • One specialization: $349 early, $449 regular
  • Two specializations (must register at the same time): $599 early, $699 regular
  • Three specializations (must register at the same time): $749 early, $849 regular

The above prices apply to any exam taken in 2004, even if the registration is made in 2003, the organization said.

10/8/03: Technical Editor says: What about renewal fees? Are those going up as well?
10/8/03: Jason from MA says: I don't think this exam is worth obtaining because Becky forgot to mentioned the experience requirement on IT security to apply for the exam. It's better to go for the MSCE security, or Cisco CCSP or CheckPoint certification which they have training schools or cert books and other training materials to study for these exams
10/8/03: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Tech Ed. -- No annoucement was made regarding renewal fees, although we'll watch for that.
10/8/03: David from Chicago says: I disagree with Jason - the CISSP is still one of the more readily accepted security cert because - having been on the job market looking for a security management postion it seems that the CISSP is the most requested cert as a job reuirement -
10/8/03: Jason from MA says: Your opinion David, but I went to CISSP site and it mentions a 4 year on the job requirement in IT Security to apply for the exam. Too much! Employers today are too damn picky and selective in the kind of experience, or degrees and certs for the new IT position openings. I don't like it and not too many applicants have their listed requirements posted on openings. I know IT security is a growing field with software and hardware firewalls (Checkpoint, Proxy and ISA Server) but the other certs I mentions give the opportunity for others with less experience in the security field to study, learn and practice for these exam certifications
10/9/03: Chris from WI says: The downside to the MCSE:Security is that Microsoft and Security do NOT go hand in hand, and most IT professionals know that. I have the MCSE:Security, and it's a joke. I'm working on CheckPoint right now, but the downside to that one is that since it's an Israeli product, it can never be used by the government, and a lot of larger IT departments use the government as a layout example. Now on to the CCSP. This is five exams which will easily occupy your studying time for at least a year. The CISSP is regarded as the highest security exam out there. For most people it takes about six months of studying. Hmm, six months vs. over a year. Pretty easy decision.
10/9/03: Jack Grubman says: Hmmmm... More money without offering a damn thing in return. How easier can it get? I've got to get into this certification business...
10/9/03: Business Cert from AA says: it Look like Business Certification. I think objective of good Certification will create for improve empolyee performance and knowlage of employee. Why ISC2 not decrease price of certificate and publish to PROMESTRIC and VUE, it will be a good way. CCSP is not importance in my country. Knowlage and Experience is better
10/9/03: MM says: "Knowlage and Experience is better" You know what they say, Knowlage is power...
10/11/03: M. Satish Kini from Bangalore, India says: The exam is worth taking even if there is a rise in the fee. My only concern is would be "Paper CISSPs", beware of these guys !!
