Cisco To Replace Routing Exam with BCSI Friday

9/10/2002 -- Cisco Systems announced late last week that it would be permanently retiring its Routing exam (RTING 640-603) this Friday, Sept. 13.

Routing was a core exam requirement for Cisco's popular Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) titles.

Individuals registering for the Routing exam on or before September 13, 2002 will be able to take that exam through October 25, 2002. After that time, candidates will be required to take the program's Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BCSI 640-901) exam.

Cisco gave no reason for the exam change on its Web site, but Phoenix-based trainer Andy Barkl said that the switch didn't come as much of a surprise to him. "The [routing] course was replaced one year ago and updated by the BSCI course, which includes new topics such as the IS-IS routing protocol.," he said. "BCSI is the Routing exam on steroids. The BSCI exam also qualifies candidates for the CCIP certification."

"ISIS is very similar in many respects to OSPF," he continued. "If you have been studying for the exam, continue on, include some time to learn ISIS, and check for any other new updates to the exam objectives of the new CCNP Routing exam, BCSI 640-901."

9/13/02: Anonymous says: Not really a problem. As stated the BSCI exam is good for CCNP/CCDP/CCIP so might as well spend an extra week or so learning IS-IS and pass an exam that is good all round.
9/13/02: KP says: I have already taken the routing exam. I hope this does not mean I have to take the BSCI as well to get the certification.
9/16/02: Anonymous says: Can any body help me iwas preparing for 640-603 now the exam has replaced to 640-901 can anybody give advice for preparing new exam .i don,t have new study material can any body help me for finding some new matirial. [email protected]
9/17/02: Anonymous says: I have just acquired the 640-603 qualification, so do I have to take the 640-901,or am I automatically accredited with the 640-901 certification??????????????
9/17/02: anonymous says: If you have passed the 640-503, 640-603, you have passed the routing exam. Those exams, and any other 50x exams (CCNP) will apply towards your CCNP. Anyone who has not passed 640-603 will need to take and pass 640-901 (unless you registered for 640-603 by Sept 13th).
9/19/02: Ranajit from India says: I had recently appeared for 603 is it compulsary to go for 901 can i get my certification on existing paper is there is any effect of that on market .
9/19/02: W. Rau from Monument, CO says: I've just spent 5X as much time preparing for the BSCI exam (as any of the other 3 CCNP exams). After using 2 Boson pract-exams (1&2), I have conculuded that there are NO pract-exams avail. which model the NEW format for Cisco BSCI exam I took last Thurs (missed it by 3 pts in 1000). SelfTestSoftware is working on updating theirs! I just got layed-off from Avaya; so I need this to finish my CCNP and resume my job search. I'll be laying down another $125 tomorrow!
9/24/02: testkingj is sucks from India says: awesome change, now these people who sells actual exam questions will have to do more work by updating thier exams, thank god.
9/24/02: Anonymous says: why not people come to this site, certcities plz advertise, plz. u r awesome, cool site, here. yeaaaaaah!!
9/26/02: gills says: To W.Rau from Monoument,CO. What is the exam pass rate for the 640 - 603 routing exam. How many questions, and how many simulated questions were there??????? Would be grateful if you could let me know !!!!!
