Novell Raising Exam Fees May 1

4/17/2002 -- CertificationCorner.com reported earlier this month that Novell will be raising its exam fees to $125 (U.S.) per exam, beginning May 1.

As of press time, no mention of the fee increase was made on Novell's "Test Pricing" Web page; however, as the Certification Corner report points out, a page on Vue's Web site is encouraging candidates to stock up on vouchers with the old price of $100 while they're available.

More information will be posted here as it becomes available. - B.N.

7/3/02: Anonymous says: First: Matthew Latta - Novell did not start IT certification. Second: Having a "Master CNE" does nothing wonderful for anyone. The response that I was given when I questioned our CNE about the Master program was "Well you get a better level of support if you say that your a Master CNE". Well my response is if your a Master then how much support do you need. My other response is why not give all of your users the same amount of support, especially considering the poor shape and reputation that Novell is in. Third: The only thing that I have ever heard from anyone at Novell is "it has to be a problem with your network". This has never held true! Fourth: Nothing in the cert world compares to the status of CCIE!!! Finally: Before you scream that I am an NT biggot or whatever, I am a CNE and have been for five years now. I am also a realistic person and speak from experiences that I have had with Novell. I could probably say similar things about MS products, especially from a licensing standpoint. The fact of the matter is Novell is in serious trouble and I truly can't believe stock holders and CEO's or board members will let the company deplete it's bank roll to try to fight back. It will be more of a "Take the Money and Run" schenario eventually.

9/8/03: Lar-miester from Orange County - CA says: Mason: Heres some advice from a guy in California who is going through a hard time in the US economy with IT jobs. First off, I have finished my courses in MCSE with the elective to also get a MCDBA, and also have a CCNA. It has been since APRIL of 2002 since I started the courses and seeing the US economy change dramatically from bad to barely peaking over the top. If I'd had known the way the IT market has been treated in our country (especially in California), I would have picked up another computer related courses such as 3-d animation or multi-media design. However on the flip-side, those 3 certifications are important to have in order to know how to resolve Desktop and Network positions. I am unemployed and am finishing up my certification testing now by the end of October. I get some offers and come across positions in Desktop Support and Network Administration requiring some Novell as well (which I had some expierience. Yet, the "popularity" days where recruiters and companys calling you to work for them are long gone. To work in IT you not only need to have some on-the-job expierience, but you need to have some certifications as well. Yet, heed what your economic structure is in IT work in your country. Allot of companys are finding better ways to get IT jobs moved over to outside countrys for cheaper rates than to hire a hirer paying IT technician. In my line of IT work, Desktop Administrator or Desktop Support is now beeing handle by someone else in India for peanuts. You can work around your IT support certifications alone or get a Bachelors in Computer Science with the 3 mentioned certifications (4 if you counting Novel's CNE). It may be worth your time invested if your not getting any bites. Yet again, check your countrys economic IT needs.
4/19/04: Nitin Kumar from Pune, India says: I would like to know fees structure of all papers.
