MOUS Master Instructor Ed. Requirements Released
6/6/2001 -- On Friday, Microsoft announced the education requirements for its upcoming MOUS Master Instructor certification.
According to the MOUS.net Web site, candidates will need one of the following in order to apply for the program:
- A diploma or transcript indicating that the instructor has satisfied the requirements for a college degree in one or more fields of educational study; or
- Written verification from a current or past employer of two or more years of employment delivering competent training on Microsoft Office applications; or
- A certificate indicating that the instructor has completed a Microsoft-approved presentation skills or Train-the-Trainer course; or
- An instructor completion certificate from any of the following vendors: Caldera, Certified Internet Webmaster, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Lotus, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle or Santa Cruz Operation, Inc.
The requirements are very similar to those required for its predecessor, the MOUS Authorized Instructor (MOUS AI) program.
As reported earlier by CertCities, Microsoft decided last month that it will replace the MOUS AI with the MOUS Master Instructor program this July. MOUS Master Instructor requires passing more exams than did the MOUS AI, and does not offer logo benefits. Fees and some other details of the new program still have yet to be determined, although Microsoft has said it will offer a discount to current MOUS AIs who apply to become MOUS Master Instructors.

Too True |

There's not much we can do about "it's not what you know but who you know" but isn't that what networking is about? When you think about it, we should be trying to get good relationships no matter what the intent because you never know when you need the help whether for employment or otherwise. Well if the company hires someone over you because that person was a friend I think we'd all do basically the same thing. That's what friends are for aren't they? However, if the friend wasn't good at what he/she does and was a negative impact on the company, then there will be an opening again. However, especially these days companies are less likely to do this because of downsizing and the need for real experienced people to fill the fewer positions that are probably also consolidated. My comment was a generalization when favoritism isn't involved and you're competing in a level playing field. These days with literally hundreds of applicants for the same position, my comment may hold true. Anyway, hopefully this MOUS MI confusion is all cleared up by now. |

In these days it is even more true that who you know will get the job over the qualified one. I also hope this Master Instructor thing gets resolved soon, maybe sometime this month Nivo/Microsoft will have the entire program up and running. |

MOUS MI's should be able to use a logo to promote themselves, pay reduced test pricing for first-time attempts at a new exam, and be welcome for employment at MOUS training centers. |

Joseph, I totally agree with what MIs benifits should be. The instructors are the ones who are promoting the MOUS program, we should have some benefits for all of are effort. All of us have been a roller coaster ever since they announced the change. Maybe someday we will be appreciated for all of the hard work to promote the program. |

Does anyone know if someone or some people may have discredited the use of the logo? Perhaps that may be another reason for the change. In other words, there may have been individuals who misused the logo or even the MOUS name itself. I haven't read this anywhere but maybe someone here may know. Hopefully this isn't the case and Microsoft/Nivo will create a new logo that MOUS MI's will eventually get to use like they did for the MOUS AI. MOUS AIs and now MOUS MIs who promote the program through their training center, advertisements, seminars, etc. should get special MOUS benefits since these techniques contribute to the continued popularity and success of the MOUS program. Special benefits can include, reduced test pricing, training center recommendations, and seminar invitations. |

I approve of the changes and new requirement for the MOUS MASTER INSTRUCTOR program. A college degree and a Teacher’s Certification from one of the fifty states of the Union is a welcome requirement—it will give strength and more validity to this Mous certification. On the other hand, the cost to the applicant should not be too different from the AI fee—a moderate increase will be tolerable. Microsoft/Nivo should not discourage enrollment trying to make a few more bucks! The use of the MOUS Logo should be re-instated immediately. Who was the idiot that suggested the removal of the Logo benefit? Silvério A. Barroqueiro, B.A., MSSM, CFM. |

Has anybody heard anything from Microsoft/Nivo? I have sent a couple of e-mails and received the standard run around. First it was to be ready July 1st now I was told maybe July but maybe not. I have to explain to several of my clients why the AI program is gone and why I still do no have the MI. Come Microsoft/Nivo get the program up and running already, you are making the instructors and the program look very bad. There should also be a logo that we can use. |

A probable scenario is that they are waiting for the uproar they caused (and obviously had not expected) with their crass dissemination of the update criteria to die down before releasing the bad news, for example a very large increase of the registration fees with no visible improvement in the support system. Being the excellent marketeers they are they had probably planned to lose a percentage of the AI's from the program due to disillusionment when the new prices were announced, however the anger they provoked may have been a new factor that caused the projected attrition rate to be too high hence the wait for the 'Right Time' to make the announcement. |
