CompTIA Relaunching Gartner Certs April 2

3/30/2001 -- On April 2, the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) will relaunch two certifications it bought from the Gartner Group in February.

According to Fran Linhart, director of certification for CompTIA and a former Gartner certification manager, the name of the certifications have been changed -- "Project Management" is now "IT Project+," and "e-Business Fundamentals" is now "e-Biz+" -- however, the objectives remain the same.

IT Project+ is "designed for IT professionals with 12 months of experience in leading, managing and directing small IT projects. IT Project+ examines the business, interpersonal and technical skills required to successfully manage IT projects, as defined by experts in the industry," according to the CompTIA Web site.

e-Biz+ is "designed for technical and non-technical individuals who work in an e-Business environment. The exam measures a baseline of knowledge around the basic concepts, key issues and critical technologies of e-Business, supplying IT and business professionals with a foundation for contributing to e-Business solutions."

Linhart said that these two titles compliment CompTIA's current crop of certifications well. She explained that for those who first get the organization's A+, Network+ and/or other certifications, these new offerings are a logical next step. "Odds are, as you [move up in IT], you will do more and more project management. You need to be held accountable for the business side and the people knowledge that surround [such projects]."

Those already certified in the now-defunct Gartner versions will automatically be grandfathered into the new titles. To request a new certificate and a CompTIA I.D. card, call (630) 268-1818.

Like CompTIA's other certifications, IT Project+ and e-Biz+ are obtained by passing one multiple-choice exam, available through Vue and Prometric. Following is the basic outline for each:

Name of Exam IT Project+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 85
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code PK0-001
Languages English

Name of Exam e-Biz+
Cost $140 CompTIA members, $190 non-members
Number of Questions 60
Time Limit 2 Hours
Exam Code EK0-001
Languages English

Further details on the certifications can be found on the CompTIA Web site. For e-Biz+, click here. For IT Project+, click here. -B.N.

4/15/01: Kathleen says: I think that is unfair that those of us that passed our software exam and were unable to pass the hardware exam or visa versa before the deadline will have to repay to take both exams over. I can understand maybe having to update to meet new software qualifications in order to receive our A+, however not receiving any credit at all and having paid all that money is unfair.

4/20/01: Charles says: hello, please I wrote the Aplus and I'm certify. I had my certificate and I realised that you have made a mistake in my name. Instead of Charles Kofi Okyere, you use Kofi Okyere. I have complained through your email but I had no reply. I have also tried to use my ID which is COMP 10400490 and i always get errors. Please I will be very happy If you will mail me back to tell me the proceedues to use. I wrote my last paper(software) on the 20th. of jan. 2001. I'm looking forward to hear from you. My email address is [email protected], or [email protected]
4/23/01: Melanie says: I have a feeling that the people working for CompTIA are thieves. I am now having trouble finding out who the President is in my location, Massachusetts, and the address to which I should send my letter.
4/23/01: Becky says: Charles -- I'm sorry if you misunderstood the article; we're not CompTIA, we just write about them, so we can't help you with your problem. The official CompTIA site is www.comptia.org. <br> Charles and Melanie -- Can I make a suggestion? Have you tried calling CompTIA's customer service department? The phone # is (630) 268-1818.<br> -- Becky Nagel, Web Editor, CertCities.com
4/25/01: WIMAL NATHAN says: i took the A+ Hardware exam twice. failed, i m trying again. i have wide knowledge of everything, but some stupid questions in the exam ...(WILMAL -- I'VE EDITED YOUR POST HERE -- POSTING ACTUAL QUESTIONS VIOLATES THE NDA. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR POSTING POLICY, PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT EDITOR@CERTCITIES>COM).. i have seen 5 or 6 stupid questions, which is not going to help a Computer technician instead of making foolish.
5/8/01: husain says: i wanna do a+,n+ n structured cabling...but i don't get the time to attend classes please tell me or help me out with my querry... i would be grateful to you
5/9/01: zubair says: i wants to get certifications for the best knowledge for the best enterence in the world of IT.
5/14/01: Franklin says: Is it me or has comptia stepped in the wrong direction? E-biz+, IT-project+??? wtf??? It seems comptia releases a new certification daily. Geez, either they're in dire need of money and recognition, or they're pockets aren't fat enough as it is. From reading some of the posts here by potential/current certificate holders, what a bunch of whiners! Waaah, I couldnt pass my hardware exam...dar! this is only the A+ exam, it isn't that difficult. Maybe McDonalds is a better career option for you. You couldn't pass both exams in the time allotted...tough! Then show your support for your angst and don't take anymore comptia exams. Theres plenty more certifications out there you can use to proove your instability in the IT world. U peeps need professional training, hands-on training, or college or something. Don't bring your book smart A+ certifications into the job market and tarnish their names with your stupidity. We have enough vapor-paper certificates as it is!
