Cisco Extends 2 Betas

10/28/2003 -- Cisco Systems recently extended the life of two beta exams: 643-531 CSIDS, which counts toward the company's Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) title, and 641-821 INTRO, which is part of the new two-exam Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) track.

Both betas launched earlier this summer. CSIDS was originally scheduled to retire from beta format in Aug., but will now be available through Dec. 15. INTRO's beta period has been extended to Nov. 30, which is around the time the exam was originally expected to go live. Cisco did not state on its Web site why the betas were extended.

The betas are currently available worldwide at Pearson Vue and Prometric testing centers for $50. Those who pass will receive credit toward certification.

Live dates for the exams have yet to be announced.

10/28/03: Neo Mopheus CCNA from Starship Nebucanezuer Matrix Revolutions says: This is good to know. I am continuing the CCNP track yet I like to pursue the Security specialization which only need a current CCNA; and I have the study guides of the other Cisco exams I got all the router sim and telnet labs online to study routing and switching, but I know I want to take advance hands on class for security, but for only $50 bucks a test why not take it for a trial. 110503
10/30/03: Anonymous says: The IDS, VPN, PIx-firewall all go through different Version update. I don't know these betas are related with which version of IOS or commands. It might not be as easy as you think. especially Cisco exams pass score are always high.
12/4/03: Anonymous says: I am studying for CCNA right now, I have an old Simulator program. Does anyone know how I can get a Telnet access for online labs, do you have to pay for it and how much. Thanks.
12/15/03: Toni from NYC says: These certifications would be wonderful if they were actually for the IT folks certifying. I think it is very sad that Cisco is bleeding the very people that make them money. For the past ten years I have pushed their products and worked very hard to integrate their equipment. Now they are nickle and diming me with these certifications. My 3 year cert is past and I must recertify at the same level. I am losing my repect rapidly because they have shown me no loyalty.
