Cisco Opens Intrusion Detection Beta

7/23/2003 -- Yesterday, Cisco Sytems opened beta testing for a new Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System exam.

The beta exam (CSIDS 643-531) is available for $50 at Prometric and Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide through August 22. It focuses on "the new features, management applications, and a new graphical user interface" in Cisco IDS v4.0, the company said.

Those who pass the exam will recieve credit toward certification. The exam counts toward Cisco's Certified Security Professional and IDS Specialist titles.

A retirement date for the current CSIDS exam (9E0-100) has yet to be announced.

More information on this beta can be found here.

7/24/03: CCNP GUY says: If Cisco thinks it is good changing every alternate day, thats a wrong assupmtion. Minimum time frame shld be there for a Certification, for example CCNP..it has almost changed 4 times in less than a year ( i mean the papers like BSCI).. there should be some consistent... God Bless we cisco people....
7/24/03: Anonymous says: I passed 3 CCNP tests in 2000 and 2001. I don't know which policy I can follow for the last one(Support) now.
7/27/03: Chris Heffner from www.certified-labs.com says: Having just come back from the Cisco IDS 4.0 Train-the-trainer in Austin, TX (The Wheel Group), I can tell you that this IDS 4.0 product is really changed alot. From the product now running under Red Hat 7.2 instead of the previous Solaris X86 5.2 product just for starters. Then the new integrated command line interface (CLI) that enables the administrator to setup and configure the IDS using router-based commands. Then add the new 4215 and the IDS Network Module. I met a lot of great Cisco people from programmers, engineers and course developers and all were willing to answer all the questions I had. Great Product and great job. Can't wait to see the beta exam. Chris Heffner, CCSI, CCIE
