Novell Launching Linux Cert, Offers Free to CNEs

4/30/2003 -- Novell Networks recently announced it will be launching a Linux-focused certification as part of a new initiative to further integrate its technologies in the open source movement.

Details about the new Novell Certified Linux Engineer (Novell CLE) title have yet to be published on Novell's Web site; however, a spokesperson for Novell provided CertCities.com with an information sheet that details some aspects of the title, which is scheduled to debut by the end of the year at Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide.

Novell says the CLE will be a "high-level" practicum exam featuring a virtual, hands-on testing environment, much like the company's Certified Directory Engineer (CDE) practicum. Topics include knowledge of Novell products for Linux as well as general networking and troubleshooting issues.

There are no prerequisites for the title, although Novell recommends that candidates have hands-on Linux experience and achieve the Linux Professional Institute's Level 1 Certification (LPIC 1) before sitting the exam.

The recommended training course for the title, Novell Services for Linux (3105), will be available in November 2003 in both instructor-led and self-study format, Novell said.

A free voucher for the CLE will be given to all NetWare 6 Certified Novell Engineers (CNEs) who achieve their titles before October 31, 2003. More information on applying for the voucher will be posted on the CNE benefits section of the Novell in May 2003.

More information on the title should be posted on Novell's Web site shortly. -B.N.

5/21/03: Anonymous says: oh god i m fed up with this .there is only thing which is known is mcse and ccna .
6/14/03: Anonymous says: This is more of an interesting certification since there has been rumors of late that Novell is considering dropping their Netware OS and instead primarily provide their services/products such as GroupWise, ZenWorks, etc for/on a Linux platform. They already provide many of their products for the Windows and Linux platform already.
7/17/03: Anonymous says: I have certs - and LOTS of exerpience - BUT, I also help those starting out who want to learn.
11/13/03: mafy68 from boston,ma says: THis is the perfect example of all the bad relating to the commercialization of something good (linux) Novell lost the big server battle to microsoft & there still trying to figure out what to do next
11/13/03: mafy68 from boston,ma says: regarding comment http://money.cnn.com/2003/05/01/news/economy/jobless_offshore/index.htm - this is a sad state of america, we preach about a golbal economy and being the bestof the best and when all is said and do- are propaganda is is worthless - we're competing in the global economy we asked for and are loooosin :(
