Cisco Revamps CCIP
3/18/2003 -- Cisco announced this week that it is reworking its Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) title.
When the CCIP launched in 2001, it differed from other mid-level Cisco certifications like the CCNP and CCDP in that it had no prerequisite and required passing only three exams, including one elective.
The new CCIP "will following in the CCDP and CCNP tradition of four exams..." and will also now require candidates hold a CCNA, Cisco said.
A comparison of the old and new exams can be found below:
New CCIP Requirements
|
Old CCIP Requirements

Exam # 640-901 BCSI
|
Exam # 640-901 BCSI
|
Exam # 642-641 QoS
|
Exam # 640-905 MCAST
|
Exam # 640-910 MPLS
|
One Elective: Cable, Content, DSL, Metro, MPLS, Packet Telephony or Security.
|
Exam #642-661 BGP
|
The elective path is being "phased out," Cisco said; the company did not give a timeline for when the previous version of the CCIP would be unavailable.

Seems that they are making their own book obsolete. The CCSP is going from 3.0 to 3.1 exams (maybe 3.2) and the books that are coming out from CiscoPress next month cover 3.0. Silly people. |

I don't see how a Brit running global networks for an investment bank in London = 'taking your jobs'. Networks are a global commodity. 'Anonymous from SD' plus you other anons, try not to denigrate this as a question of money, maybe that's why the USA and it's citizens are increasingly isolating themselves though self interest and lack of understanding of global perspectives. Rant over. BGP should really be welcomed, as it now really a beacon for this qualification. We have included it on all training paths for some time now. |

Windows 3.1 is always the best out there, why change to 2000 or XP? Is there MCP for Win3.1, I'd take it. |

How useful are "pass on first try" 640-910 exam study guides I've seen around? |

I agree, Cisco needs to slow down on telling us to study "these thing" and then change the course before we can finish.. That's b******t!!! I'm in the CCIP crunch too and now feeling the pain of the 10/30/03 deadline. If Cisco REALLY wants to seperate the men from the boys, then they need to just ditch all certifications except the CCIE. And better yet, make people have at least 5 years of IT job experience before they can take the CCIE tests. Screw all of these high school Cisco Acadamys and people who think that if they can configure an IP on a router, they can manage an entire network and make 100k.. Cisco needs to get out of that game and concentrate on those of us who know what we're doing and can really make a difference... But they keep screwing with us and keep making it easier on the damn high school students... |

I agree, those Cisco Acads are a joke for high schools. GREAT for college level, but bad for HS level. I think it promotes high school students not to want to go to college by having it in the high school cirriculum. I think a college education is more important. I think students should go to regular college and if they want to participate in Cisco Acad there, that's better. But stick to reading, writing, math, and science in HS! |
