Cisco Revamps CCIP

3/18/2003 -- Cisco announced this week that it is reworking its Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) title.

When the CCIP launched in 2001, it differed from other mid-level Cisco certifications like the CCNP and CCDP in that it had no prerequisite and required passing only three exams, including one elective.

The new CCIP "will following in the CCDP and CCNP tradition of four exams..." and will also now require candidates hold a CCNA, Cisco said.

A comparison of the old and new exams can be found below:

New CCIP Requirements
Old CCIP Requirements
Exam # 640-901 BCSI
Exam # 640-901 BCSI
Exam # 642-641 QoS
Exam # 640-905 MCAST
Exam # 640-910 MPLS
One Elective: Cable, Content, DSL, Metro, MPLS, Packet Telephony or Security.
Exam #642-661 BGP

The elective path is being "phased out," Cisco said; the company did not give a timeline for when the previous version of the CCIP would be unavailable.

3/18/03: suhoahn from korea says: that's good but bgp is some serious. In ccnp, bgp included in bscn , but ccip it is one topic. this mean ... bgp is difficults ? I guess , it may be
3/18/03: Anonymous from SLC, UT says: Screw Cisco and their constant changes. I finished my CSS1 just to have them retire it and then I got my CCIP only to have them change the course layout. Cisco needs to stop making random changes to their tracks and making people waste their money!
3/18/03: Anonymous says: the ccip bites compared to the ccie; if you get the ccie then even with no experience you can make $100-150 thousand dawlers a year!!! that is really neat! you should all go and get the ccie for yourselves and make yourselves bags and bags and bags full of beautiful munny! $$$$$$ cha-ching! yay cisco! and san francisco too!!!!! whew hew!
3/19/03: AvatarFX from Cleveland, Ohio says: I am glad to see the inclusion of BGP. I have taken this course through Global Knowledge and have implemented it in our enterprise , additionaly I was disappointed that Cisco did not have a BGP exam after taking the course due to the fact that this always mandates that I more intensely study the material. This will certainly separate the Wheat from the chaff as they say!!!
3/19/03: Anonymous from SD, CA says: You people can't spell. And for those who are in another country, stop taking our jobs. And for Mr. "go get your CCIE", shut up. We are tired of wannabes. That is why our salaries suck so bad now. Bonehead.
3/19/03: Anonymous says: These large tech companies are out of control. Go open source and alternate equipment.
3/19/03: dc from austin says: 31 oct 2003 is phase out date. You have til then to take the old exams per Cisco Support....
3/20/03: mr white from england says: i ahve been studying for 6 months towards my CCIP now they have changed the goal posts i would be better doing CCNP with the voice specialisation NIGHTMARE
3/20/03: Anonymous says: I agree. Learn how to spell. How can you be an 'Engineer' with a specialty in 'communications' when you do not even know how to properly communicate! Also, I also shadow the comment made earlier... for you foreigners... stay away from our jobs. And I am also sick and tired of all you wannabe's. Get a job in your own country, support your OWN economy, build up your OWN countries and companies and maybe we can afford to live here in our OWN country so that we can support our families. Ciao.
3/20/03: CCIE says: Heh - as for you talking about foreigners taking your jobs ... well duh. If you're not skilled or motivated enough to do what it takes - then someone else deserves the job. CCIE
