Minor A+ Update Soon

1/22/2003 -- A spokesperson for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) told CertCities.com this week that the organization expects to post new objectives for at least one of its A+ exams in late February/early March.

According to the spokesperson, it's too early in the process to say what exactly will be changed, or whether the update will affect both A+ exams. However, she did say that the organization is estimating that the revision will affect only around five to 10 percent of the current objectives.

Because the revision will be "minor" CompTIA does not plan to offer separate beta exam(s) to test the new material. Instead, it expects to integrate the new questions as non-scored items on the current exams at some point this summer. The organization will convert the new questions into scored items and remove the outdated ones once testing is complete, "sometime in Q3 or Q4 [2003]," the spokeperson said.

CompTIA will release more details on the update as the information becomes available. To find out more about the current A+ exams, click here. -B.N.

1/23/03: doh! says: Yeah, maybe Comptia can fix the crappy pictures of motherboards, PCI slots, etc. That's the only really hard thing about the A-plus hardware test, period.
1/23/03: Jake- A+ certified from London UK says: Yeah I agree with Doh! These pictures are terrible!I failed first time coz I had nearly 5 of them!
1/23/03: Curtis from North Carolina says: The pictures are bad
1/23/03: Anonymous from San Antonio says: It is good to see that CompTIA is taking the time to "freshen" the objectives for the exam. It is important for the exams to reflect the current requirements for service technicians. We will include these changes into our subject matter and review courses at San Antonio College.
1/23/03: Val from Maryland says: :-) Ha! ha! This is funny! I'm an Aplus instructor and today my students were discussing about those ridiculous motherboards pictures! It was about time for a change huh! Hope they are looking into these types of changes.
1/23/03: Anonymous from Richmond says: I can;t believe peolple have such a hard time passing the A+ exams. When you deal with the stuff day in and day, you should know what is what on a motherboard. Anyone that is a professional and deals with this stuff on a regular basis should know the difference between a PCI slot and an ISA slot or an ATX board and an AT board. Granted the pictures should be updated, but come on, we need to know our stuff if we want to be A+ certified or certified in any aspect for that matter.
1/23/03: Anonymous says: how stupid can people be? You whiners must be COLOR BLIND. If anyone has taken the comptia a+ exams, then you know the pictures aren't in COLOR. I had no problems distinguishing each component. Maybe it was because I had built a computer before taking the exam. HINT. Get a grip people what do you want 3d graphic illustrations with virtual panning options? HA HA HA.
1/23/03: Anonymous says: Assembling a PC on your own is the best answer to this issue. I had a hard time with those confusing pictures in practice exams; but after building PCs for friends, it became very easy.
1/23/03: Anonymous says: While reading the article above, I missed the part about replacing the pictures. I thought it said new objectives. Talk about getting on a soap box.
1/24/03: Anonymous says: Regarding the snob with the COLOR BLIND comment, you are not thinking logically. If the pictures aren't in color, then it doesn't matter if the whiners are color blind. HA HA HA.
