Minor A+ Update Soon

1/22/2003 -- A spokesperson for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) told CertCities.com this week that the organization expects to post new objectives for at least one of its A+ exams in late February/early March.

According to the spokesperson, it's too early in the process to say what exactly will be changed, or whether the update will affect both A+ exams. However, she did say that the organization is estimating that the revision will affect only around five to 10 percent of the current objectives.

Because the revision will be "minor" CompTIA does not plan to offer separate beta exam(s) to test the new material. Instead, it expects to integrate the new questions as non-scored items on the current exams at some point this summer. The organization will convert the new questions into scored items and remove the outdated ones once testing is complete, "sometime in Q3 or Q4 [2003]," the spokeperson said.

CompTIA will release more details on the update as the information becomes available. To find out more about the current A+ exams, click here. -B.N.

1/24/03: Rico from New York, NY says: What happens when you do really work in the field? I do get to operate a computer to print out jobs. I work for a mailing-house. But I do no support or repairs, and olny work with OS 95' & 98'.
1/24/03: Rico from New York, NY says: O' I forgot incase any wants to contact me. My emial is "[email protected]"
1/24/03: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Hey All -- I didn't get information specifically about the graphics for this particular story, but I did talk to them about them a little while back, and at that time they said there were no specific plans to change them. The reason given is that CompTIA said the questions themselves are psychometrically sound, which in layman's terms basically means that questions based on those graphics don't get missed more often that the other questions. They may still be changed at some point, but CompTIA does deny that the graphics are poor enough to affect the test results, and as such had no specific plans to change them when I last asked them about it in December. -- Becky Nagel, Editor, CertCities.com
1/25/03: Anonymous says: the pics are bad but the test is still easy
1/27/03: Anonymous says: Clearer pictures would be nice, but the test is a cinch.
1/27/03: Jaye from Cincinnati says: the pictures leave alot to be desired, however you either know your stuff or you don't. come on, A+ tests aren't that difficult, and there is no reason a person shouldn't pass one on the 1st try.
1/27/03: Sheila from Provo says: Not that I have a crystal ball or anything, but it seems to me that the minor changes to the comptia A+ exams will probably be along the lines of questions about the WinXP OS and hardware requirements etc. Remember when Microsoft decided to pull support for Win 3.x? and Win NT? You may still see information about them in the study guides, and the exams still have Q's about NT. Although there are still plenty of places that still use these OS's, you're on your own if you need help. And as far as those awful pix of motherboards are concerned, yeah, they are pretty bad, but if you are serious about an IT career, there's nothing like getting your hands on the hardware and doing it yourself. I've read and heard enough about the uselessness of "Paper certs" to know that unless you actually build and configure a computer, and use the software, all the certs in the world are never going to make up for that lack of basic skills. This is just my 2 cents worth... Good luck to all of you on these tests, they are bound to evolve and change and the tests do need to to keep up with the ever evolving technology both hard and soft.
1/28/03: Anonymous says: If they are going to update the A plus test does that mean they are gonna change the books? I am about to get started studying for A plus.
1/29/03: Mike Meyers from Houston says: As soon as we get some decent info on WHAT the changes are, rest assured that the Mike Meyer's All-In-One Certification Exam guide will be updated! Here's what I heard: Adding Post PIII processors Adding DDR and Rambus Adding windows XP and removing nothing! but this is all hearsay.
1/29/03: "The Fixa" says: Wholeheartedly agreed about the pics. I sent mass emails to CompTia and Selftestsoftware about it and Selftest said they sent my comments as well...maybe they are listening. Who would ever locate the CMOS battery with one of those schematics anyway? Lame...
