Keppel Sentencing Delayed Until January
11/20/2002 -- The sentencing of braindump site owner Robert R. Keppel has been delayed until January 24, 2003.
Keppel pleaded guilty in August to a federal charge of Theft of Trade Secrets in relation to his site, Cheet-Sheets.com, selling questions and answers to Microsoft certification exams. When sentenced, he faces up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
Assistant United States Attorney Annette L. Hayes, who is prosecuting the case, told CertCities.com today that her office has filed its sentencing recommendation with the court, but cannot release the details until a few days before the January hearing.
Keppel was originally schedule to be sentenced Nov. 1, but the hearing was pushed back until this Friday. No reason was given for the most recent rescheduling.

It is interesting that society is so warped that a guy selling exam asnwers can get 10 years in prison and a convicted murder can do 1 year in prison. |

I know this guy and it was comptia that went after him. What we are missing here is that the final sentence will be a landmark decision and it will set the tone for others. Does he deserve such a harsh punishment?...no not in my opinion. He has paid restitution financially...what more do they want...blood? They want to paint the color of "example" on him. There are CEO's of companies that have done far worse that will do less time. |

Comptia had nothing at all to do with this invesitgation, trial and eventual guilty plea. The investigation was headed by Dave Swartzendruber, Microsoft's Antipiracy Manager. I'm all for it. Yes, Keppel will probably be made an example of, but that's the risk he ran. I would like to see these certifications become as strong as they once were when people really had to know the material in order to succeed. I say whoops to Keppel and I hope it helps make others think twice before trying to make a quick buck or 750,000. |

Wow - just noticed the big banner ad for test king on this page. Becky, do you think they offer a legitimate product? <p>"Almost every question that specifies an exhibit HAS an exhibit that is almost identical to the ones in the actual exam"</p> <p>"Thanks, ALL of your questions were on my test"</p> (From their reference page) I suppose it doesn't matter as long as they pay for the ads or you 'pass' the test. |

Excellent point, Tim. Becky, how can you and certcities.com--in clear conscience--report on this Cheet Sheets case when a cheat company like testking.com pays your salary? |
