Cisco Adds Wireless Certs

11/6/2002 -- Late last month, Cisco added two wireless networking titles to its line of specialty certifications: Wireless LAN Design Specialist and Wireless LAN Support Specialist.

According to Cisco, these titles are designed to certify that candidates have "significant knowledge of relevant factors involved in deploying Cisco Wireless LAN solutions."

Knowledge and skills tested by the new titles include radio technologies associated with WLAN 802.11 standards; WLAN and bridge topologies and applications; configuring WLAN products, including access points, bridges, client devices and accessories; Aironet software and management features; and various security methods for Wireless LAN environments, among others.

To earn one of these titles, candidates must hold Cisco's CCDA (for the Design title) or CCNA (for the Support title) and then pass one exam. The exams are currently available at Prometric and Vue testing centers worldwide.

11/7/02: Warren from Virginia Beach says: You ought to point out that these certs are only available (so Cisco tells me) to employees of Cisco, and Cisco Partners or resellers and not to the great unwashed. I hope they do make them available to all and sundry (and soon) so us wireless geezers can get an official piece of paper from a recognised vendor as opposed to the current offerings by 'independents.'
11/7/02: CTT says: Yes I's Good!!
11/7/02: Becky Nagel from Editor, CertCities.com says: Warren -- who did you talk to there? I don't think the information you recieved is correct. The only prerequisite for these titles is a Cisco CCNA or CCDA -- at least that's what the certification Web site states. Let me know if you have more information. -- Becky ([email protected])
