CISSP Hits 10,000; SSCP Fee Hike Near

10/2/2002 -- The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC(2)) announced yesterday that its Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) title has hit the 10,000 mark.

ISC(2) honored its 10,000th CISSP, Denmark-based Jakob Frydendal, earlier this week at organization's annual meeting, held in London.

"In the last two years, ISC(2) has seen the expansion of the information security profession's responsibility and influence within organizations worldwide," James E. Duffy, managing director for (ISC)2, said in a printed statement. "Certification uniquely identifies information security professionals who are best suited to fill the needs of executive-level positions in both government and private industry."

In other ISC(2) news, according to the Web site CCCure.org, ISC(2) has it announced it will be raising the exam fees for its lower-level certification, the Systems Security Certified Practitioner, in 2003.

Currently, the SSCP costs either $295 or $395 U.S., depending on when the candidate registers for the exam. According to CCCure.org, this will rise to $350 or $450 beginning Jan. 1, 2003.

6/26/03: superRaw says: Take a look at some of the worthless people around you who have passed the CISSP exam and now proudly call themselves security professionals. That should answer any questions about the level of prestige associated with the CISSP. My grandmother could pass the CISSP exam given a week to study or 5G's for a boot camp. Can't believe I paid $450 out of my own pocket to be lumped in with some of the unqualified people who have passed the exam. Shame on ISC2 for claiming to validate 3 years' relevant experience by requiring a resume submission they don't even look at, and a sponsor who could be any other joker with the certification. ISC2 only cares about the money, which is why the certification really means squat. On the plus side, it did land me a job :) Let's just say if I were doing the hiring, having the CISSP certification would not be a requirement.
12/24/03: andy from china shenyang says: if you have cissp information, please let me know.
3/9/04: Not a hater from USA says: I have my CISSP and feel pretty good about it. Those of you who have your CISSP and bad mouth it, should be ashamed of yourself.
4/19/04: Anonymous says: Nice one guys, Im writing in May, can't wait. This is definetly an exam, that requires more that just cramming info. without experience this exam could be a nightmare. Good luck to all writing next month
3/15/05: Anonymous from India says: Can anyone tell me any good book for studying & clearing CISSP certification
8/28/05: Anonymous says: While most points in the thread are valid, I feel the following are also true. 1. The certifications proves a person's desire to perform in the security field. Novices who hold the certification will definitely learn given the opportunately. 2. The relatively high fee keeps novices at bay. 3. A paper submission similar to SANS could really validate the credentials of a CISSP. More so when the paper is posted fro public review. 4. CISSP is easy to pass. A mile wide and an inch deep indeed. Maybe the depth must be increased. May be the 10 domains should be tested separately. But the breadth is too wide to handle for many.
