CompTIA To Release Wireless Cert

9/10/2002 -- With its new newest certifications -- Security+ and HTI+ -- in beta, the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has officially announced plans to add yet another title to its vendor-neutral roster, Wireless+.

The announcement came in the form of a call for subject matter experts posted on the organization's Web site. CompTIA is also looking for industry sponsors to become cornerstone members of the certification's development committee.

When launched, the title will become the organization's 12th certification.

According to CompTIA President Jon Venator, CompTIA's plans for a wireless certification have been in the works for a while, but the organization wanted to get Security+ and HTI+ titles developed before making an official announcement.

Wireless+ is expected to debut in 2003.

9/15/02: S.M.Raza from Pakistan says: Honestly COMPTIA Cert are good ..but for starterz bcoz their cert are on basic way certz but it is good effort to start new cert in new area
9/19/02: david Chua from Chicago says: COMPTIA certs are worthless piece of crap! Don't waste your money on this junk. I would like to say it again COMPTIA certifications are junk. I have all their certs and regret wasting money on their certification. Go ahead COMPTIA add 20 certs and become certification shop. I think you will like that. "Everybody 3 certs for the price of 1, everbody come, come"
9/19/02: chee choppa chowa says: Most of there certs are entry level, so with exception of A+ cert they are good only for people breaking into the world of IT. A+ certification seems to be a requirement for all PC techs around were I come from. Whether they are entry level or require a lot of experience. So anyone who says COMPTIA certs are worthless are goofy looking.
9/19/02: chee choppa chowa says: and I am from midwest ILLINOIS
9/25/02: CWNA says: Take the Planet3 cert. Forget the CompTIA. Yes, CompTIA has better name recognition, but the CWNA is endorsed by the WLANA, and since that is the wireless industry's association, people looking to hire wireless tech's will know the CWNA. BTW, I have A plus, Net plus, Server plus, and thought the Security plus beta was easy. I also have the CWNA. I'll take the wireless plus when it comes out since my job pays me to, but in the real world I'll be glad to have the CWNA, MCSE, MCNE, CCNA.
9/25/02: El Mojado from LA says: Here in LA both CompUSA and Frys require their techs to have A plus or no gig. I think BestBuy also has the same policy. Experience is great if your solo but if you want to work in a company then Aplus will verify your knowledge.
10/3/02: Boris says: Hi! First of all, I don't think that CompTIAs certs are worthless. The A+ cert is widely recognized and required by many employers. I don't believe that Net+, Inet+, and Server+ are as valuable, but everyone has heard of CompTIA, so they do have some value. However, I don't believe that CompTIAs certification will be as well received in the wireless community as Planet3's CWNE certs. Their lowest level cert, the CWNA, requires a base of knowledge that is much deeper than Wireless+, and the additional wireless Security, Infrastructure, and Expert certs offered by Planet3 can't even be remotely touched by Wireless+. If you want to prove you can talk the talk, Wireless+ is probably adequate. But if you want to prove you can walk the walk, go with the CWNE certs. The employers that know what's what will be looking for them.
10/3/02: Red from J says: Aplus won't open a lot of doors these days, but it does confirm your quals if you have experience. If you don't have experi it atleast says you know a bit more than the average goon. I have doubts about the tech sector tho unless you love it its not the place to be money wise... forget late 90s hype, pleeease
5/3/03: Sarah of Certz.com from UK says: In my opinion certz are best defined in how hard they are to achieve in that regard most of the CompTIA or not that demanding to pass and thus not that valuable. Well apart from Server plus. The CompTIA exams do then represent a good starting point and a goal to work towards for people new to IT or those who have just embarked onto the IT certification routes.
