Oracle To Drop DBO Cert

5/1/2002 -- On April 15, Oracle announced that it will be retiring its entry-level Oracle Certified Professional, Database Operator (OCP DBO) certification later this year.

The move is not unexpected: The DBO has being supplanted by the company's newest entry-level title, the Oracle Certified Associate, which was announced late last year.

The DBO exam, #1Z0-411, will be retired on Oct. 15. According to Oracle, those certified as DBOs by that date will retain their credential and benefits after the track has been eliminated. Even so, the company is encouraging all DBOs to pursue its 9i Associate title.

There are tons of newbies braindumping the mcse2000 and ccna (nobody care), but Oracle braindumps are very rare and outdated, so the value of Oracle certified people is high (you need to know your stuff... and if you fail your 1Z0 exam you must wait 1 month). The DBO (OCP) was something like the extremely easy (pass=540) 70-210 M$ exam (MCP) -- "1-exam-easy-certification"... my friend (gas station guy) got his MCP diploma and wallet card, really! LOL, and he got a helpdesk job very easily. Oracle is a great company (btw, I don't hate Ellison -- I envy his tremendous success), with great employees, they realized the DBO newbie cert was decreasing the value of the OCP (Oracle Certified Professional) credential, so they killed it.
5/2/02: Anonymous says: Anyone can braindump there way through certs even Oracle tests. Braindumping isn't the point. All certs can be valuable in conjunction with experience. What certification is best really comes down to what you job encludes. The only true elite certs are the ones that include hands on tests (Cisco, Red Hat) and the certs that require years of experience (Project Management Professional from PMI requires, Ceritied Software Development Professional form the IEEE).
5/8/02: OCP says: Oracle is worth its weight in GOLD! its only one of the few certs out there that are really showing ROI's, busted my butt off in studying this DB technology , it was sooo worth it. It is so true, its for the elite-only. I thank the good lord out there for not making paper OCP's.
