To the people blaming Prometric and Vue for the price increase......It's not true. They get a fixed amount from Microsoft. That's why when there was that 25% off promotion (expired after summer), it didn't affect them. They get a fixed amount from Microsoft too for the free 70-240 (why would they administer an exam that is free?). Microsoft makes all decisions about exam pricing. Prometric and Vue get less customers if exam prices go up. Call Microsoft if you want to confirm it yourself. |

FYI: I'm now downloading the 13 December 2001 Cumulative Patch for IE. Microsoft rates it critically severe and recommends immediate patching for IE 5.5 SP 2 and 6.0 users. Left unpatched, you can get affected just by reading a malicious e-mail message or visiting a malicious Web site. Opening an e-mail attachment or accepting any download isn't required. Scary huh. Just the price of having the latest browser from MS. The link is http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-058.asp |

You Just don't understand.....So many have lost their jobs in this recession that the number of test subjects has dropped by atleast 25%, therefore we the remaining few must make up the difference so Bill Gates and his cronies don't have to give up those South Pacific Vacations. |

Is there a reason why this editor doesn't answer "Be Smart"s question? Are they really letting people take 240 who didn't ask for the voucher in time? If this is true, they should give the extension to people also. |

What here makes people think that by raising the price of the exam, the tests would become more respected. Excuse me, but that is bull puckey! The price of the exam should have nothing to do with the amount of respect the exam holds. The complexity of the certification tests should be the decider in the amount of respect a cert carries. If we start to believe that the cost=the respect, then heck, M$ might as well as charge $10000.00 per exam. |

You people...Anyone who is anything more than a paper MCP has a company picking up the tab anyway. There won't be anymore paper MCSE's for the 2000 tests anyway...If you don't have the experience, I wouldn't even try. |

I just failed my Windows Upgrade exam. Also, I heard Microsoft is raising their prices next year. Then there XP coming out and so another certification for it. Theres also MCSA certification. I'm thinking of pursuing other vendor certification exams instead. I also agree that raising the price has nothing to do with raising the credibility of the certification. It only makes it more unaffordable and also makes them richer. I have heard of brainbench. Do companies recognize certifications thru them? I think all of us pursuing various certifications should unite and beat the system if its wrong or unfair. |

Has anyone checked out the tests for MCSA? 3 core and ONE (1) elective? I don't call 2 exams for A+ AND Network+ or Server+ ONE exam. That's 3 exams for the ONE elective at $200 each. |

Becky Nagel, the web editor, won't answer Be Smart's last question because she's just a tool of Microsoft. To hard to call a toll free number, I guess. Glad she finally woke up and updated the news at least. |
