MCSE-Win2K for MCT 2002 Deadline Extended

11/14/2001 -- When Microsoft backed off its original plans to decertify thousands of MCSEs on the NT 4.0 track, it had to redefine one requirement for its Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) 2002 program -- to achieve the MCSE on Windows 2000 by Dec. 31, 2001.

According to information published on the company's MCT Secure Web site, Microsoft just recently has extended that deadline to May 1, 2002, which the company says is "based on requests from MCTs and Microsoft CTECs who have asked for more time."

MCTs can get more information by visiting the MCT Secure Web site. -MCPMag.com

12/7/01: Anonymous says: This deadline is not well thought for both Microsoft and folks who spend time and money to study their product and get certified. I am now thinking of getting other OS certifications ie UNIX and Linux and forget about MS XP, ZP...etc.
12/11/01: anonymous says: Hmmm, It seems like we have a few sore heads! Having handled a few major projects one of which included a WAN migration I like quit a few others bit down heard and prepared for the exam! I am glad to have the 240 under my belt. As for those thinking of switching to perhaps give their loyalty else where let me say this "Your certification efforts do not determine the job market. Ruther try structuring them towards the direction the market seems to be heading". This seems to be MS at the moment but who knows what the future holds. I started administering a Banyan Vines network and now am exsited to involved with 2K. Will this be the telling tale of my efforts I dont think so.
12/12/01: DaveP says: What a bunch of whiners! The 240 exam is not that difficult. Seems like you should spend less time complaining and more time improving your skills.
12/13/01: Captain says: Couldn't agree more with DaveP Anonymous there. NT 4 MCSE's had at least a year to do the 70-240 exam. It's not that difficult. If you couldn't be bothered to spend a little bit of time on it; don't spend the time moaning instead
12/13/01: Be says: Hello people?!? If you want Microsoft to change their stance and offer an extension for the 70-240 Accelerated exam, don't ask for it here on this comment board. This magazine isn't Microsoft or Microsoft owned. Instead call Microsoft toll free (USA and Canada) at 800-636-7544. Talk to a supervisor and insist to be counted as one of many MCP's/MCSE's that want an extension. It will work. How do you think we got an extension last year? Remember the clock is ticking and we need to make Microsoft Programs aware of strong desire for that extension. Call TODAY.
12/14/01: Be says: *** NEWS FLASH *** Just heard from a friend of mine that Microsoft has been letting people (worldwide) register for the 70-240 Accelerated exam even though they missed the November 1, 2001 deadline to request the free voucher. All you have to do is call 800-636-7544 (toll free USA and Canada). Other areas contact your Microsoft regional education service center listed on the MCP Web site. Microsoft has NOT posted this change in policy on their website. See, no deadline is absolute.
12/14/01: GEEKEN JONES says: Look I understand why people are upset with microsoft I put in about 92 hours studing for my MCSE 2000,before I go. WHEW THANK GOD! My friend sofar put in 75+ hours studying for his 240 exam and It does not even give you a score when you pass, What a jip! Now my friend is mcp 2000,msce 4.0 mcdba 2000,and he has one more test to get mcse 2000. he will have spend ouve 100 hour studing when it is all over with and done. I fell many people do not like the time spennt on studying for these certs. MYSELF WELL I AM ONLY A MCSE 2000,MCDBA 2000,MCP 2000,CCNA,OCP AND HP PRINTER CERTIFED TECH WORK ON THE OLE CCNP AND CNA AND it will ove 200 hour spent on STUDYING FOR THESE CERTS. BTW GO BACK IT GRAD SCHOOL PEOPLE I MEAN THESE CERT LAST FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS ,BUT A MBA AND MIS MASTER LAST 4 LIFE PEACE AND KEEP ON GEEKING!
12/18/01: mctbill says: Hey everyone.......... Don't you get tired of hearing everyone complain about the certification process. It is a necessary part of the IT industry. Certifications by themselves don't mean very much. Hopefully they validate what you know, but I see too many comments by people looking for the shortcuts, They are more interested in passing the exam than in knowing the material they are being testted on. Quit complaining - the Windows 2000 exams have been available for 18 months already. Study and prepare and take the damn tests! Yes, they should extend the validity of the NT4 certifications, but why extend the deadline to May 1, 2002 for MCT's to upgrade their MCSE? If they are teaching the subject they should be certified. Cisco requires you to upgrade your certification every 3 years. Technology changes so rapidly we should be wanting to upgrade our knowledge. To certify is simply to validate that knowledge, and then you need to back it up with experience. As to the Acceleerated exam, if an NT4 has not taken it after being avail for 18 months, too bad. You probably won't pass anyway. The pass rate is believed to be very very low, perhaps 5 - 10%. To those who are genuinely interested in learning Windows 2000 and taking the exams - good luck. It is well worth the time and effort.
12/31/01: Rick says: I don't get it. What is the whining about. The 240 was free. MS didn't have to offer it. I don't know of any other such offers. And what is this about counting the hours spent studying, what kind of energy have you invested? You harvest what you plant, plant sparingly, harvest sparingly. My tests must have skipped the "trick" questions, and just left the tough ones. All of the tests that I have taken for my 3.51, 4.0 and Win2k exams have had fair questions on them. I had a wake up call in 1995 when I failed my first attempt at 3.51 server, and since then have taken understanding the subject matter fully very seriously. Now can we put some real energy into this, and then after this business is done, take that energy and put it into cleaning up our industry wide reputation for spelling customer service, "Customer Serve Us". Happy New Year! Peace be with you.
