First XP MOUS Exams Go Live

10/3/2001 -- Nivo International, the organization that runs the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) program for Microsoft, informed CertCities.com yesterday that its Word and Excel XP exams have gone live.

While no information is as yet available on the Microsoft Web site, Nivo said that the Core and Expert exams for both applications are now live and available at testing centers worldwide.

Beta testers who passed the test versions of these exams should be receiving their certificates soon, Nivo said.

No word was given on the status of other XP-related MOUS exams, although ones for Access, PowerPoint and Outlook are expected. -B.N.

10/5/01: Anonymous says: Where can we access the XP exam objectives; seems like Nivo are a bit ahead of themselves. No one will want to write the exam until they know the objectives....
10/6/01: Joseph says: It's usually a good idea to wait a while before taking exams so that the early test-takers can provide feedback so that test problems can be corrected. For example, you don't want to be taking an exam when the timer goes too fast or windows don't refresh fast enough and you can't complete the exam in the limited time. These problems will be caught in the early weeks or months of tests.
10/8/01: T says: It has been my experience that when the testing engine malfunctions, especially in the early stages of a test. That you inform the testing center of the problem and they will let you retake it. When that does not happen, inform Nivo of the problem and the lack of cooperation from the testing center and they will take care of it. I have called Nivo on a couple of testing centers because they were not following the agreement and since then they either have imrpoved or are no longer a testing center. I am also waiting for the objectives to study.
10/10/01: Bill says: I just was sent information on the objectives for XP. It seems the objectives will not be released until sometime after January 2002. Way to go Nivo, release the exams but not the objectives. When will they get there act together.
10/15/01: Anonymous says: Objectives have been posted on the web site
10/17/01: good to says: sign me up---I wanna be the first kid on my block to get XP cert!
10/25/01: Anonymous says: I should like to take the Mouse course, and get certificated. But im disabeld and dont have the money tho paid for it. is ther a possibility tho get it for free. sincerelly yours.
10/30/01: Joseph says: I'm sure you can get educational loans or other financial aid if you attend an approved training center, but I don't think it would cover the cost of the exams. Try contacting a training center by phone or surf their web site for more information. Perhaps the following web site may be helpful: http://www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices/default.asp?PageID=training&SubSite=itcr&PageCall=finaid
11/7/01: Sondra says: I got to take the Word and Excel beta exams last June and passed Core and Expert for both with only a weekend's worth of time reading up on new features. If you are truly an expert user of these products, you should be able to pass the XP tests.
11/27/01: Anonymous says: anyone know when the other exams (Outlook, Frontpage, Access) will be coming out? And are there any new master programs for those who pass them all? I wonder where Microsoft will go with this..maybe including .NET certification to be a master...
