Microsoft Releases 7 .NET Exams

5/31/2006 -- Microsoft released seven next-generation MCP exams for .NET experts on Friday. Four of the exams are key for MCAD- and MCSD-to-MCPD upgraders.

Registration for these exams is currently open at Pearson Vue and Thomson Prometric testing centers worldwide.

Two of the exams being released target MCAD titleholders who want to upgrade to the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer certification:

  • 70-551 UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD Web Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
  • 70-552 UPGRADE: MCAD Skills to MCPD Windows Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework

According to information on the Microsoft Learning Web site, MCADs can pass one of these exams in lieu of having to pass the three exams needed to fulfill the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications or MCPD: Windows Applications.

Also newly released are two exams aimed at MCSD upgraders:

  • 70-553 UPGRADE: MCSD .NET Skills to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework: Part 1
  • 70-554 UPGRADE: MCSD .NET Skills to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework: Part 2

MCSDs need to pass both exams to achieve MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer status, bypassing the five exams needed through normal methods.

The other three exams are aimed at candidates taking the normal path to .NET certification:

  • 70-547 PRO: Designing and Developing Web-based Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
  • 70-548 PRO: Designing and Developing Windows-based Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
  • 70-549 PRO: Designing and Developing Enterprise Applications by Using the Microsoft .NET Framework

Exam 70-547 counts toward the MCPD: Web Applications title; exam 70-548 counts toward MCPD: Windows Applications. Candidates for those titles still need to pass two exams to obtain MCTS status prior to Microsoft issuing the MCPD designations. Exam 70-549 is one of five exams needed to fulfill the MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer title using the traditional path.

All exams are about $125 in the U.S. - Michael Domingo, courtesy of MCPmag.com

6/9/06: larrywestmcsd from Louisville, KY says: Any company that would attempt to scam a forum out of its legitimate advertising revenue would probably scam you. Avoid them. I wish certcities would remove these posts and/or send an invoice to these companies or sue the bastards. This is no different than filling your gas tank, then leaving without paying. To arash: Go to www.prometric.com, then "Test Takers", then "Schedule a Test," then choose Microsoft and "Turkey" or "United Arab Emirates". On the next screen, choose "Schedule a test" again (Prometric needs to hire better web developers), this will eventually bring you to a list of Microsoft exams - choose the desired one and your price is listed (35 GBP in Turkey, 56 GBP in the UAE - remind me next time I'm in Turkey to take an exam there, and save 50% of what the US costs are). The "Next" button will list the 14 testing centers in Turkey and the 8 in Dubai.

6/13/06: Anonymous says: insurance from US - please grow some genitalia, get a life and perhaps even a real job where you may be able to actually contribute something to society. Your lucky I'm not petty enough to take down your website.
6/14/06: larrywestmcsd from Louisville, KY says: Getting back on topic. I took the 547, 548, and 549 betas. I passed the 548 and failed the 547 by one question. The 549 is extremely difficult - I got around a 500 on it. (700 was a pass for all three exams). I had read that if you passed one of the betas that you would get a free voucher, but I have yet to receive it. Now I have to decide whether to continue getting my MCAD and MCSD .NET [already passed 70-300], or just skip it and go for the new generation exams, since I got credit for one of them. I wish they had an exam to go from the VS6 MCSD directly to the MCPD.
6/15/06: larrywestmcsd from Louisville, KY says: What really surprised me about the beta exams is that, unlike the previous betas which had over 100 questions, these betas only had 71 or 72 - yet it still had the four-hour time limit. Either Microsoft has reduced the question pool or they are not giving out all the questions to each beta tester. Considering that they did not offer the betas in countries known for providing braindumps (India, China, Pakistan), I assume that it is the latter. At the beginning of each test it asks you whether you want to take the test with C# as the language or VB .NET, although there may have been at most two or three questions in each exam where the language mattered (I am "fluent" in both) and one of the "C# questions" was in VB. A good .NET programmer should know how to use both languages anyway. Study tip: Learn how to use the Visual Studio 2005 debugging tools inside and out, especially for the 549 exam, as well as understand the changes in deployment from 2003.
6/26/06: manisha londhe from nasik says: i want to attend mcad exam...so i want to prepare for tht ,but i want a practice testtraining for exam.i have already completed my vb.net course.
