Saving SharePoint Files to the Server |
| Users are not able to save files to the server, but are directed to save files locally. |

1/26/2010 -- We are using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 at our company. We have users complaining that they're not able to save files to the server. Instead, they're being directed to save files locally and then manually upload the files to the server.
Is there a solution to this problem? Our clients are using Office 2003 on Windows XP Professional.
Answer:
If you've run into a situation where a user can open a file (e.g., Word 2003) on SharePoint Server but is directed to save the file locally, try the following solution:
- Uninstall the SharePoint support from Office 2003 applications.
- Set the document files (e.g., Word, Excel) to not open in the browser as follows (this procedure is for Windows XP Professional):
a) Open Windows Explorer.
b) Go to Tools, Folder Options.
c) Click on the File Types tab.
d) Highlight the document extension for the file type (e.g., highlight DOC in the extensions column).
e) Click on the Advanced button.
f) Uncheck the box, "Browse in same window."

g) Click OK twice to close all windows.
Make sure you also do this for other file types that are causing this problem, e.g. Excel.
