No Network Connectivity Outside Home Network
If I take my laptop outside my home to another network, my connection shows "limited connection." How can I restore network connectivity?
by Zubair Alexander
12/17/2008 -- I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on my laptop computer and I can connect to other networks behind my Netgear ProSafe router without any problems. However, if I take my laptop outside my home to another network, I receive an IP address, DNS and Gateway information but my connection shows only "limited connection" and I am unable to successfully ping the gateway. How can I restore network connectivity?

Answer:
It's safe to assume that other computers on the networks that you're visiting have no problem with network connectivity; it's only your computer that's having issues.

You're probably running Netgear's ProSafe utility for mobile clients that's provided by SafeNet. If your laptop computer loses network connectivity outside your home, I suggest disable the two services related to the Netgear ProSafe VPN client when you want to use your laptop outside. Disabling those services should fix your network connectivity problem and your network connection should no longer display "limited connections."
