Determining the Amount of Data Stored in the Registry |
How can I determine the amount of data stored in the registry? |
by Zubair Alexander |
6/18/2008 -- Microsoft offered a command-line tool in Windows 2000 Resource Kit called Registry Size Estimator (DuReg.exe). I've also used this tool on Windows Server 2003, XP and Vista. The tool also gives you the ability to search occurrences of a specific text string anywhere in the registry.
Keep in mind that DuReg.exe does not measure the amount of space that's used; it measures the amount of data that's stored in the entire registry, a subtree or a subkey.
You can download the tool from Microsoft here. Microsoft's KB article 317382 documents its usage in detail.
