CCIE Optical Exam Beta Underway

4/20/2001 -- Cisco recently announced a beta release of a new Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) qualification exam: the CCIE Optical Exam (351-020).

The exam is one of eight that can qualify individuals to sit for the CCIE Communications and Services lab exam.

The beta period will last until May 4. Candidates interested in participating can take the exam for a reduced rate of $50 (U.S.) at Prometric test centers worldwide.

According to the Cisco Web site, those who pass will receive full credit toward the written exam requirement for the CCIE Communications and Services lab exam.

5/24/01: Craig says:	I don't understand how a person could possibly study for this optical exam. It seems to me, that the equipment would be far to expensive for self study. I haven't heard of any training partners offering this type of course. This interests me greatly due to the future outlook of networking. I am looking for a way to differentiate myself for the long term and get in on a technology early, that will sustain my goals for the long term. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
