4/20/2001 -- This week, Red Hat released Red Hat Linux 7.1 with 2.4 Kernel, and has updated its Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) lab exams to correspond with this new version.

According to a company spokesperson, the exam upgrade to 7.1 happened immediately -- standard practice for Red Hat when a new version of its Linux software is released.

Red Hat Linux 7.1 offers several new features, including:

  • Improved security features
  •
  • Installation enhancements
  •
  • Software manager
  •
  • New configuration tools
  •
  • Improved multiprocessor and user/group support (and many other changes) via the 2.4 kernel

The RHCE program has more than 4,000 graduates. For more information on RHCE and its requirements, click here. -B.N.
