New Linux+ Now Live

3/23/2005 -- The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced Monday that an updated version of its vendor-neutral Linux+ certification exam is now live.

The "2004" exam (XK0-002) features security and documentation domains, unlike the previous "2001" version. Emphasis on hardware has been reduced with the new version, CompTIA said. Detailed objectives can be downloaded in PDF format from CompTIA's Web site, here (name and e-mail address required).

The exam consists of 90 questions with a 90-minute time limit. It is available for $207 (U.S., non-member price) at Pearson Vue and Prometric testing centers worldwide.

CompTIA said that the previous version of the exam (XK0-001) will be retired July 31.

3/24/05: Anonymous says: CompTIA charges way too much for their exams. Especially since they are all entry-level exams
3/25/05: Yellowdog says: If you pay $207 your a nut. Just go to any pre-test / voucher vendor an you'll only pay $138.
3/25/05: Purple Herman says: $138 spent is $138 wasted on this turkey. Save your nickels for the LPI exams instead...
3/28/05: IT Pro says: I never seen LPI listed on a job listing either. In the *nix world all that matters is experience. Linux+ is more well know than LPI is.
3/27/05: bravodog78 says: i'm new to the ITfeild so any chance to learn and get a Cert is fine with me, the more Cert and exp. the more income .
3/27/05: Anonymous says: That is too much for an entry level Linux exam.
