Microsoft Releases Office Specialist Expert 2003 Exams

8/11/2004 -- Microsoft and recently announced that two new exams for the Microsoft Office Specialist 2003 track are now live: Word 2003 Expert and Excel 2003 Expert.

The release brings the total number of Office Specialist 2003 exams to four, with Word Core 2003 released in Oct. 2003 and Excel Core 2003 released earlier this year.

All Office Specialist exams are hands-on tests where candidates perform tasks in an application environment. With the 2003 track of exams, the exam environment switched from using the actual applications to a simulated environment.

Certiport, the company that produces Microsoft's Office Specialist exams, told CertCities.com earlier this year that this change would result in the 2003 track of exams rolling out more slowly than previous tracks. More 2003 exams -- such as Access and Outlook -- are forthcoming, Certiport said recently, although no official release dates have been announced.

Office Specialist exams are available through Certiport testing centers worldwide. To find a testing center near you, go here.

9/2/04: dljw2000 says: I'm just a bit miffed. I spent a good month learning Outlook XP forwards and backwards in prep for the first leg of what I'm hoping to be Master Certification in Office within a year's time. The only house in town who hosts the test say they are going exclusively with Office 2003 tests in October...which means I'm forced to switch to 2003. So I made the switch and didn't do my homework. I had assumed all elements of the Office suite (for testing) would have been in place by now. With Word and Excel Expert only released mid-month in August, how long will it be before I can take the Outlook Specialist test? The testing center has been trying to get me to spend the bucks on the Outlook XP test, but also admit that you can't 'mix and match' Office XP and 2003 tests when seeking a Master Certification. I hate to switch studies over to Word exclusively now after all that time spent studying Outlook 2003...
