EXCLUSIVE: Cisco Cert Program Passes 600,000 Mark

7/27/2004 -- Cisco recently told CertCities.com/TCPMag.com that the program has now granted more than 600,000 certifications worldwide.

According to Don Field, senior manager of Advanced Technology Training in the Internet Solutions Training Group at Cisco, this count includes all certifications granted.

This is only the third time that the program has publicly remarked on its overall size. Early last year it announced that it hit the 500,000 mark, up from 250,000 a few years earlier.

Cisco does not release counts for certifications by title except for its high-level Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), which is currently at 11,275. For a breakdown of CCIEs by specialty, go here.

Field shared this number during an interview with CertCities.com/TCPMag.com discussing a number of issues related to the program. To read this interview, go here or here.

7/28/04: [email protected] from Australia says: Well, I suspect that passing some mark for numbers certified is relatively easy if you are going to 'timeouts' on your certifications, like the three year expiry on my CCNA which will soon pass. And NO, I probably won't bother to renew it, at least not in the foreseeable future.
7/29/04: Audrey2 from Michigan says: I agree with the above comment. However, I do have something to add. I really feel that the vendors of the certs should help with job experience and not falsley advertise that their are so many jobs going unfilled and that you can make so much money. I think they should be held accountable for selling the programs and promising pie in the sky. I have been saying this for years now, so I guess I will get off my soapbox since it goes to deaf ears.
9/12/04: ronnierc from India says: Hi I am not sure about the TRUE value of CCNA,but in INDIA people take it for granted and we have local IT firms and BPO's asking for MCSE's and CCNA's for Call-Centre Jobs. They are paid a meagre 160 Dollar per month. I personally feel CCNA's are worth more than that provided they have earned it on their OWN sweat.
