Sun Launches New SCWCD Exam, Announces Upgrade

4/7/2004 -- Sun Microsystems recently announced via its Web site that a new version of its Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) exam -- available in beta format earlier this year -- is now live.

Objectives for the new version (CX-310-081) can be found here. The new exam focuses on J2EE 1.4. An earlier version of the exam, for J2EE 1.3, remains live. Both exams cost $150 (U.S.). Candidates must hold Sun's Certified Java Programmer title (any version) before attempting either SCWCD exam.

Sun also recently announced that it is creating a $100 upgrade exam (CX-310-082) for current SCWCDs who want to recertify on 1.4. The company did not say when this exam will go live.

More information on Sun's Java certification program can be found here. -Becky Nagel
